Historical ballpark photos for 2D?

Hi All,

I've been away for a while...2009 is what the bulletin board tells me! I picked up OOTP17 in the Humble Bundle to get back to some baseball and historical sims are my thing. In the last OOTP I had there wasn't a 3D view but you could have a background of the historical park. Really that's what I want from the game. It just helps with immersiveness when I'm managing the game. I only intend on using broadcast view anyhow.

Thing is: I can't figure out how to do this. And I can't find background photos for the parks that I can get to work. I'm using the Steam version and I think I read somewhere that it could be an issue for mods. I tried using the All in One from the workshop, but all that gave me was historical FaceGens (which have gotten really good) but I remember having actual player photos when I used to play too.

Any help would be appreciated!

Does the Steam version allow you to access Add-Ons Central? If so, you should see a link to Add-Ons Central on the main OOTP screen (near the bottom). When you open it, you can "add a server" to add OOTPMods.com. This is the server you need:

ootpmods.com/mods/ootpmods17.xml

This will give you a list of files (including ballpark photos) available to download. Just download and then click "install".

By the way, I have a new and improved historical ballparks file just about ready to go. It should be available sometime before OOTP18 is released.

assuming these will work for both 17 & up-coming 18? Your other historic ball-parks is great work! thank-you.

No such luck. Just Workshop Central which takes you to the Steam Workshop which apparently sucks for OOTP. Should have just bought the regular version. A shame because everything else works well for Steam that I've bought through there.

Thank you very much for the help.

I don't know whatever happened with Steam Workshop. Wasn't it supposed to contain most if not all of the mods available at OOTPMods?

It will only contain them if someone uploads them to the Workshop. It doesn't seem like anyone has.

I truly have no idea.

If they don't, I can create them at some point in the not too distant future. I'll try to add that to my list of things to do, but if you don't hear back from me within a week or two or so, then please send me a message/reminder on it!

I followed the instructions and created a folder to upload. However, I have no idea how the upload is supposed to happen. The procedure is not entirely straightforward, as far as I can tell.

I've tried to upload a file to Workshop Central. The problem is I see no "change visibility" or "upload" options in the Owner Control menu. I'm sure I've done something wrong, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is. Help!

I'll try to take a look at it tomorrow and see what happens when I try to upload a file.

Ok, I'm having the exact same issues you are

I'll take a look around to see if we have anything posted on how to use the workshop. I may have to get Andreas involved though.

Did you have a workshop folder in your data folder at all? I don't it's completely missing.

I created my own, but not sure if it has anything to do with the problem.

The Steam Workshop dialog in OOTP 17 does work, but it has some bugs which we'll fix in the next version. For example sometimes you'll have to close and re-open the dialog to update the lists

You can upload any folder to Steam as a Workshop item, but OOTP will only install them if they contain a "target folder". This is the content of the readme.txt file:

Quote:
In order for OOTP to be able to automatically install your workshop item, OOTP must know the target folder.
The following targets are allowed:

custdata
Files will be installed into the folder where custom user data is stored. By default, this is
My Documents/OOTP Developments/OOTP Baseball. However, this could change if the user chooses to install custom data in a
special directory. Custom data includes folders such as /ballcaps, /jerseys, and /logos.

userdata
Files will be installed into the folder where the user data is. By default, this is
My Documents/OOTP Developments/OOTP Baseball. User data is basically the /saved_games directory.

basedata
Files will be installed into the base data folder. By default, this is
Program Files/OOTP Developments/OOTP Baseball/data.

leaguedata
Files will be installed into the currently open league's saved_game directory. By default, this is
My Documents/OOTP Developments/OOTP Baseball/data/saved_games/yourleague.lg.

leagueimages
Files will be installed into the currently open league's images directory. By default, this is
My Documents/OOTP Developments/OOTP Baseball/data/saved_games/yourleague.lg/news/html/images.

To create a workshop item, create a project folder inside your OOTP /workshop directory, for example
/workshop/my_steam_workshop_project/
Be careful with the folder name(s) - you should not use special characters there. We even suggest
to replace spaces with underscores.
Your project folder has to contain one or more of the target folder mentioned above. For example
/workshop/my_steam_workshop_project/custdata/
Each target folder may contain sub folders or files which will be copied into the appropriate directory
on the users computer. For example /workshop/my_steam_workshop_project/custdata/pictures/mypicture.png will
install mypicture.png into C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 17\pictures\
(if on Windows and using default setup setting for OOTP).
We'll add more details here ASAP.

I can add a file to the list. I see the file in my workshop in Steam. But I'm missing some of the menu options under Owner Controls. I have no visibility option, for example. I also have no means to point to the proper folder where the mod is located. I did some Google searches and learned that other users have reported the same problem. Most of them, as far as I can tell, never reported a resolution for the problem.

Without that visibility option you cannot make your items visible to others
Do you see the "Acceptance required to publish items" somewhere in your Steam profile or workshop page? It's essential to agree to it.

That part seems to be working for me now using your tutorial (which I just forward to pstricket btw). It wasn't before though, when I was uploading the files incorrectly. So might it be that you only get the option when a file is actually uploaded correctly?
