Starting Expansion League

I just started '17 and wanted to start a league with an expansion team. When I start the league it starts April 1 and the first game is April 3. Anyway to backup the calendar since to sign free agents will take more time to fill a roster. I remember in '16, there was a way (maybe QuickStart) that the calendar started 10 days earlier to fill a roster. Any ideas or ways to suspend the time free agents think about offers?

Anything would be greatly appreciated.

anyone know a workaround to help? Its hard to do an expansion draft on 4/2 and start the season 4/3. Anyway to buy an extra week somehow or allow free agents to sign the day of?

Not sure if this would work but it is an idea worth trying. Start a standard mlb season then quickly make a template. Start a 4 team fictional league in late 2015 then simulate to when you want to jump into the MLB and then add the template.

I havent played around with expansion too much but I assume you have to do it in the off season. I cant imagine a league expanding a day or 2 before opening day so import your MLB template in like January of 2016.

let me know if that helps or works

oh and you probably have to delete the fictional league after you import your mlb template so you dont end up with a rush of fictional players into your MLB

Interesting idea, I'm not sure I follow all of that, but I can try.

I just figured there was an easy way to do this. I can't imagine I'm the first person wanting to start a league with immediate expansion.

Yea i would think so but there are just so many options in this game that people are doing their own things. The easiest route for you would be to simulate a season and then expand. But if you want to do it with opening day 2016 rosters then you might have to do it the way I stated. I will gladly help anyway I can. There are more seasoned veterans here who might jump in and have better ideas.

Hope you are enjoying the game and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

This is how I always play the game(and of course stats only). But one thing to keep in mind. When you do the expansion draft, where the default numbers are for the protected players, put it to four years of service and under. Default is three, but makes the game a bit unrealistic, as there are too many really good young players that are left unprotected. I understand there may be a few "gems" that you get in the draft, but way too many with the default settings left on. I also up the protected players to 26, sometimes 27, to make the game more of a challenge. And I just do 35 rounds.

But remember - three years pro experience wasn't randomly selected, it was the rules of the actual past two expansion drafts.

And IMO, 26 protected players is way too many. In real life teams only get to protect 21. But to each their own.

Yep, good point. I just use those numbers for the challenge. So many ways to play this game for sure!

Move the first week of the schedule(w/schedule editor) to the end of the regular season.

Let's say the current season ends on Oct. 1st and you want to have it end on Oct. 8th.

Go to the first day of the schedule(schedule editor) and add those games to Oct. 2 ,after that is complete, delete the games scheduled on opening day and keep doing this till the first week has been moved. You can do three days at a time if there are three game series (see the schedule editor,at the bottom make the choice, regular season and number of games in series).

I usually do this the other way around because sometimes my seasons start too late.

Or just a series that the Home team is a 2015 then you get your wish but the problem is that if you load like August 30 in 2015 have to delete Schedule so your not starting season in 2015 and that would also work out if you were try to,simulate this Offseason in 2015 Minus Ststs and Awards.

So it is all manual, no way to just move it back a week?

Yes-It's manual. If it's a small league it shouldn't take long.

Check for mistakes with the schedule evaluator.
