I need a new team!
Having been a Royals fan my entire life, I've become used to heartbreak when we become mathematically eliminated from the playoffs each June. As such, I also lose interest in the MLB about that time each year. I'm tired of this. I want to be interested and intense until at least September. As such, I need a secondary team.
I do have a few requirements for team 2. First, obviously, is the delayed heartbreak factor. The team needs to actually be competitive on a major league level. Second is some history. The D-backs would be great, but they're brand new, and I like teams that have been around longer than me (born in '80). Third, nobody in the AL Central or whom the Royals have ever played in the postseason (Blue Jays, Yankees, Phillies, Tigers, and Cardinals). I'm currently leaning toward the Dodgers, but am welcoming suggestions. Only three weeks left until the season starts! |

If you don't cheer for the Dodgers, there's a good chance you won't get into Heaven - Tommy Lasorda

You should do something a guy from San Francisco did several years ago. He was a diehard Giants fan for years and years. However, the Giants and Matt Williams parted ways and the guy went nuts. He declared himself a "Free Agent Fan". He wrote a letter (a nice one, not a "you guys suck for losing williams" type letter) to the Giants declaring his free agency. He then penned a letter to every single team in the league at the time and told them he was a free agent fan and why he was a free agent fan. He told each team what he is looking for in a new team to follow.
A dozen or so teams responded, many of which made various offers including free tickets or merchandise. Several teams offered him the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a game and I believe 1-2 teams offered him the honor of tossing out the 1st pitch on Opening Day. It was a great idea and it worked for him. I forget who he chose and what they offered but it was a great idea. I thought about it doing myself for the free tickets and merchandise and such but I couldn't bear to pen a letter saying I no longer cared bout the Red Sox.

No, the Dodgers are the way to go.
Take a trip down to Chavez Ravine and watch the game as the sun sets over LA, it's quite nice. Root for guys like Brian Jordan, Dave Roberts, Paul LoDuca, and Shawn Green, not guys like Barry Bonds. Watch Eric Gagne, in the glory of his filthy hat go wild after notching another save, and feel for him as he walks the bases loaded (which doesn't happen since he hardly walks anyone) and starts cursing in French. Yeah, I like the Dodgers. |

the Red Sox are the team. They won the first World Series ever, had the greatest hitter of all time in Ted Williams, the greatest pitcher of all time in Cy Young, have the oldet park in the majors, the most recognizable sporting field in all of sports and have great fans.
Also, a quote from ESPN Page 2's column on slogans for all the MLB teams. Here's the one for the BoSox... "The New York Yankees sodomize orphaned puppies -- we adopt them."

Yes, I think the Communists have been more succesful than the 'Gints' over the last century, even with losing the USSR!

Since when do the Angels play without gloves, with fours strikes and five balls and with a metal dinner dish/pan as home plate?
