Biggest Wasted Comeback?

So, I just had a real gut-punch game in my historical league. Down 9-0 on the road, with 1 out and nobody on in the top of the 8th, my offense staged a stunning comeback. 2 in the 8th inning, then an amazing 9 in the 9th inning (opponent ran out of rested relievers) to take an 11-9 lead.

Then...my closer came in. His first blown save of the year, as he allows 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to waste the 11-run comeback with 5 outs remaining. My napping 4-year-old was the only thing keeping me from shouting in agony as it happened.

So, what's your worst "wasted" comeback effort?

Can't say that I've had something this bad, yet. Baseball can be a cruel game in that it truly "ain't over 'til it's over." Plus, I think Markus has programmed a "cruelty" factor into OOTPB to keep us all humble and honest.

Such as me blowing away my AL competition last season by 14 games, only to lose 5 games to 4 (the 9-game 1919 World Series) to the 88-52 Brooklyn Robins. They ain't even the Dodgers yet!

Well, I had won it all in 1918, hence my lesson in humility. Anyway, I will be on the lookout for stunning crashes such as yours. Ouch.

EDIT: Heh, I hate to pile on, but this portion of your win probability graph almost looks humorous. Talk about ups and downs in this game!

Honestly, the graph is what really sold me on posting it. Loving that new feature, along with the recap. It's well worth the occasional odd play highlighted in the footnotes.

Well, may it tilt in your direction more often! (Except against your New York Yankees. )

Appreciate the thought, but I'm not exactly a charity case here. That loss made my 1988 Red Sox 58-9 on the season. Swept a 3-game series against the Yankees right after that game, too!

58 and 9?!?

"Oh, there's nothing like a .866 winning percentage to do a body good, don't you agree?"

And to think I was feeling a bit sorry for you . . . ()

It's my scripted history league, based on a message board thought experiment from a few years ago. I always do my first season in a new OOTP version using this league, to see if any in-game mechanics have changed before I shift to my Modern Day League. So far, basic tactical approaches from OOTP 16 (like Take Pitch ) seem to hold up in OOTP 17.
