Is Paint.net Good for Transparencies
I'm going to try to learn how to make transparencies so I don't have to impose on you guys.
I see where Microsoft has a Paint.net software... it's supposed to be free. I have Paint on my new computer, but it doesn't have a "magic wand". Several questions: Will Paint.net create transparencies? The video makes it look very easy and simple, especially for the technologically challenged like me. Is it free? Does it download any bloatware that will alter your computer? Thanks for your advice and counsel. Much appreciated. |

Works very well and is free...highly recommend it. I did not have any problems with downloading it, but some of those sites can make it tricky. I think I got it from getpaint.net but I am not certain since it's been awhile.

Lets you choose from dozens of programs. Gives you an installer, automatic handles everything. It's a great site. Downloads and Installs (with no add ons or toolbars) Thats where I got paint.net from |

Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing Click on the free download in the upper right.
I just downloaded it and installed it. There is no bloatware in the "custom" installation. Don't know about the "default". It is best to use the "custom" install so you can opt out of programs you don't want to install anyway. I was able to create a new image, paint a few lines and remove the background in 10 seconds. It looks like a very intuitive program that doesn't require you to search for basic functions or read the help screens. I use Paint Shop Pro and it's very similar. Use Google or Bing and search for tutorials. Also check youtube. The paint.net forums are also very active and there are plugins available.for more advanced users. I know from your previous posts that you are hesitant to embark on new PC related adventures so go for it and maybe you'll be helping others in the future. Everybody was a rookie at some point. Good luck. |

I used paint.net for a little while. I don't remember anything wrong with it.

Here is a link to a post I made last year on how to use Paint.Net to make transparent backgrounds.
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ml#post3916700 I'd like to add that if you adjust the tolerance setting up or down on the Magic Wand tool, it affects how much you actually delete/make transparent. V. |

I too, have been using paint.net for several years however, I have never used it to create logos or uniforms.
It works great for editing images, resizing images, etc. From my POV, it isn't complex and is pretty user friendly. Also, if you don't already have it, make sure to pick up color cop. It is free too, and is great for getting the color code from a image/logo. http://colorcop.net/ Finally, here is a link to a super good color charts which will be very helpful when picking out colors to use when creating a uniform or logo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_colors |

For all who don't want to install it on their computer ...
https://pixlr.com/editor/ allows you to edit images from your computer or by entering the URL and to save it on your computer.

Wow.. been a GIMP and PSP 7.0 user for years. Both programs pretty much have a higher learning curve to do simple things if you don't use the programs often. Downloaded paint.net and in minutes I was doing things without needing to go to the help screen. The on-line help is great and if you find that you need some high end features that don't come with the program they have an extensive library of plug-ins written by the user community. I literally downloaded some user created plugins and have pretty much duplicated the features I have in PSP and GIMP. I highly recommend this program.
This is by far the easiest program for graphics that I have ever used. I am not usually this impressed by FREE software. |
