Large number of superstars players not coming through the draft
I simmed 50 years in a fictional test league (24 teams) and I found an unusual discovery...
Of the 45 people inducted into the Hall of Fame over that time, 15 of them were either into the league as an international free agent, or just showed up and signed a minor league deal with the team they were with - meaning, a third of the HOFers weren't even from the draft. To me that seems oddly high. I only have 'generate international amateur free agents' at 'default (24 per year). Granted, I haven't played a ton of solo OOTP the last few versions but I am wondering if anyone else has witnessed this? |

I noticed that international armatures are insanely good as well. I just turn off all international stuff. As for draft vs signed, the AI stinks to high hell with contract and prospect management. It is a weakness that goes back at least 4 years (when i started playing ootp). They also cannot manage finances or their own team makeup very well forcing them (often) to sign average players in the off season at insane markups that sometimes match or surpass star to superstar level salaries. All this has been brought up before and what you are seeing is pretty normal in this game. Still waiting for better AI... otherwise I love this game.

We have seen better raw potential players through INT FA as well in our fictional league.

I took a few months off from this game to see if this issue, and the issue of star players signing 1 year deals every off-season is fixed. I see they're still the same.
I honestly don't think they know how to fix these issues yet. I'll see if they're remedied in 18, but I definitely won't be buying day one again. This has been my least enjoyable ootp experience yet. |

That's because, I think, there's a bug in the 100 prospect list. It comes out at the beginning of the season and when the International Draft Pool is announced, they get into it, but many of them disappear in the next year's prospect list. It happens too with independent league signees.

I've been noticing a lot of the best rated players, especailly hitters, all come from Int Free agents. It is why i have turned that feature off.
However, this could in fact be a bit of truth in that a lot of the really good young hitters in the game came from Int FA and not out of the basic North America draft... Should look into that first i guess. Top 40 players today. How many were really drafted, how many came as int free agents. |

This appears to be a serious issue...has it been reported?

Question: Are the players established int free agents?, Amatuer free agents? both?
Is there a way of knowing this? |

This issue goes back a ways and like most AI issues, have generally not been addressed.
Not to hijack the thread, but for instance, a few years back, I took injury numbers from the worst year in MLB history and compared it to my league on low injury setting and basically proved that injuries cant be accurate. Did it change anything? nope lol. Still love this game but AI fixes seem to take a while probably because any small change to it will have widespread effect and they might be happy with the way it is now. If you look at my game right now, i have 7... yes 7 starters that have missed at least 2 months each. 5 of them have missed more than 3 months each. Anyway, report it but at least the international issue is easy to solve. Just turn it off lol. Edit: Make that 9 players. My starting catcher just went out for 7 months and my closer 7-8 weeks hahaha Last edited by marc5477; 06-07-2016 at 09:40 AM. |

I'm curious about your injury findings. I have always found high to be very realistic

Someone with more time than I currently have should go through this list and tally up the numbers of how the players got into professional baseball.

I wasn't going to post because I haven't played much v17 but FWIW in my 90 year league the top 20, 10 pitchers 10 batters have 1 int FA and 1 scout discovery. The remainder are from the draft. It may not apply if this is strictly a v17 issue, but... ...
