Nicknames no longer displayed

Sometime last season in OOTP 16 my players nicknames quit showing up on their player screen. The nicknames are clearly there when I enter the player editor screen; I can delete them, create new ones, etc. but still, no nicknames displayed. Any idea whats causing this?

I think nicknames are users choice ie you can turn them on or off. Did you inadvertently?
