crashing after wild pitch

i've been playing since april and I'm just through my 1st season and in the last week everytime there is a wild pitch the game crashes and i lose all data from that game. i've tried to install the latest patch but when i download it it doesn't save the file as an application or execution file and when i double click on the downloaded link it says it doesn't reconized this file type and would i like to search the internet for a program that will run this file? i didn't have this problem when i downloaded the game a couple of months ago? anyone having this problem with downloading the patch?
