Creating Leagues
I'm trying to make an enjoyable league to start from scratch with. I have a few questions:
- I started one last night (2 sub leagues, 2 divisions each, 16 teams total) and I noticed that every team has at least one megastar quality player. My team has 4-5 (I did an inaugural draft). When I say megastar I mean high 70's overall guys who are putting up HOF #'s. It's a bit unrealistic to have that many dominant players all at once no? Did I miss something in my set-up options? I never clicked "Provide HGH Syringe to each player" - How do I add the DH? I can't find it for the life of me. - How do I edit the names of the minor leagues? I have AAA, AA, and A ball. They are all called sub-league 1, sub-league 2 and sub-league 3. Kind of boring...

I also had a situation where lots of super-superstars appeared in the inaugural draft. Some teams snapped them up, others didn't, and the league became very unbalanced. Multiple teams won over 115 games and several won fewer than 50 games. Go to League Settings, which brings up 7 tabs. Click on the League Settings tab on the right, which brings up 8 more sub-tabs. The "Rules" tab has the option to check DH. The "Leagues & Teams" tab lets you rename the sub-leagues & teams. On the right side you'll see a dropdown menu for the league. Use this to cycle through all of your minor leagues. |

It has been my experience that AI teams favor younger stars and top prospects in inaugural drafts. If you're willing to draft older stars in early rounds, you can wind up with a playoff team during the first year, but your prospects list will likely be underdeveloped. It just depends on how you like to play. I will often take two teams (one from each of two leagues with no interleague play). I will draft one to be a "win now" type of team, and the other to build toward long-term success. Many on these boards will set up a league and sim 5 or 10 years to establish history and then take over a team (sometimes the cellar dweller, so as to be challenged to build that team up). I get that, but I, too, enjoy the inaugural draft too much.

If you want an inaugural draft, but want a pool of players that matches what you'd expect after the league talent stabilizes, sim a large number of years (I'd use 30 years, but I know that takes a long time) to eliminate as many of the original created players as possible and ensure that the remaining players are mostly created through the draft and development process. Then use the option to release all players and hold a new inaugural draft. Either before or after that, you can delete league records, I'm not sure when it makes sense to do that, though, might require some experimentation and depends on whether you want some stats to help you in your draft choices. |

That's a pretty good idea actually. I may try that.
