Something's... off about the scouting report summaries
I've noticed that this version the summary doesn't match the rest of the scouting report at all basically. Here's just one example:

"Right now" could mean for his age, or the level of players he currently plays against

that tells me that "right now' while he's in the minors, he's a solid offensive player. Which we all know that solid minor league play or even a scouts future projections of it, is no guarantee of ML success. I'm guessing, (since I don't actually know how it works) that scouting report text pulls from a random batch of possibilities based on different current and potential ratings and/or personality traits, which means to have varied possibilities some of them that appear on players reports may not actually seem appropriate to what you see in the ratings. And since scouting is a variable not a constant and is based on opinion with a certain margin of error. You see things that may make you go "That doesn't look right"

What is his ratings? Probably has good current ratings for his age but a very low ceiling
"Solid" offensively isn't nothing to write home about. |

The report is wrong, no point in trying to justify it. That summary looks at the guy's star rating (potential). This guy is probably a 2.5 or 3 star player because of his defense. So the game pulls up 3-star text for the summary, and that "solid offensive player" is in that category. Usually it will be correct. But not here.
It's a really complicated thing to try to code better text scouting reports, and until we have a better underlying system, there will be a few things like this that don't look right. |
