Odd ootp16 import/reset issue

So I imported my OOTP16 saved game, then wanted to reset the league (basically, I wanted to use my saved game from 16 as a template). So I released all the players, erased all career stats, reset service time, and deleted all league history. I then deleted all free agents, and filled all teams with fictional players. For some reason, my "new" game shows up with a March 4 2000 start date (I did pick 2000 as the start year), but league history shows stats for 2000. league schedule shows spring training and regular season games but if you go to Oct you see wildcard and playoff games already scheduled. And the oddest thing is if you sim into April, you get errors on rosters as it says teams have zero eligible players for the playoffs. Anyone run into this with imported games? Suggestions?
