a bit slow

8mins on SSD, 25-30mins on HDD for 1 year sim

fictional 28 team mlb+ full default fictional minors.asthetic stuff turned off, no owner goals, no human managers.

threading turned off or on makes virtually no difference on ssd or hdd.

i can't speak for the ssd, but '17 is 4-to-5 times slower than '16 when simming on a mechanical drive.

Seems like some people have noticed problems though the majority have large improvements. We're looking into them. The more you can tell us about your computer, the better we can try to diagnose what's going on.

I am having a very similar issue as well. I was hoping it was just something weird in the beta but the full release is having the same issues. Simming 1 season of an MLB quickstart on default settings takes about 20 min in OOTP17 vs about 10 min in OOTP16. The sim usually starts out okay but seems to get stuck for a while on some days consistently. The second to last day of each month seems to take much longer to sim for some reason and it gets much slower as the season goes on, getting stuck about every other day in September. On those days windows will do the spinning circle thing and the program will be "Not Responding" for about 5-10 seconds before moving on. I've tried messing with a bunch of settings, turned off FaceGen, player pictures, scouting, etc, disabled anti-virus and other background programs (although this doesn't explain why OOTP16 is unaffected) and done a bunch of tests but nothing seems to make it go any faster.

Not sure what info would be helpful for you guys but some of my PC specs are below. I can provide any other information that you need.

Intel Core i5-2500K Quad Core CPU 3.30 GHz
8.00 GB RAM
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Western Digital WD10EZEX 1 TB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660

Having the exact same experience as apgn16. Some days takes forever.

I know i'm running an older machine, but it still seems quite a bit slower than OOTP16, even with a Quad-core.

My specs:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 740 @ 1.73GHz
6,00 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 1GB
Old school mechanical harddrive
Windows 7 Home Premium

yeah, similar experience, but i wasn't looking so closely as to when it occurred, but the description sounds right.

i noticed 1 season is over ~6gigabytes of writes to my SSD.

i am also using the new option for ai filling minor leagues. it is set to match ability, not to fill top down.

system:

i7-2600k 3.4ghz quad - no overclocking
8gb ram - system idles ~1 or less, resources are available.
amd hd 6870 1gb gpu
windows 7
SSD
seagate 1tb hdd

better info from time stamps:
in '17 ssd was 11-12mins and hdd was 25-30mins. pretty sure with similar settings '16 on the mechanical was 5-6mins. never tried it on the ssd.

i've tried threading on/off recommended, 1/2 recommended and 2x recommended. if there is a difference it is a matter of seconds for 1 year of simulation.

coretemp shows each core being used. i even turned off cpu power scaling. i didn't look when it was turned off. crystal diskinfo gave info on how many gigabytes were written to disk per 1 year sim. info from task manager showed the huge i/o write value too.

We think we have tracked down the cause, and the fix will be in the next build.

i saw the other post... good to hear.

although you said in that post that the problem was for 'older pc' lol... my pc is 4-5yrs old but it can run 3 to 6 heavy 3d games at once without a problem. that game requires as more resources per instance than 1 instance of ootp. running 6 instances of that game at one time is not a problem for my pc. kinda hard to say the equipment is the cause for the slowdown when it runs significantly more complicated stuff without any problems. lol. although i did have to replace my cpu and gpu thermal gel every 2-3months when doing that.

but a serious question:

edit: will make a new thread, since it's slightly different topic.

update: when i turned off page file completely, a 1 year simulation took significantly less time.

from 30ish minutes down to 20-ish. on the mechanical drive. i didn't notice much of a difference onthe SSD, but it's easier to notice on the slower drive.

maybe that is within a normal fluctuation or not.... more info helps i hope.
