New to OOTP

Yikes. What have I done? Well, I completed the pre-order last night at 11:45pm and I am itching to get home to download this game and try it out.

A few things about me....first, I love baseball. Two, I'm not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination. My grandfather and father were/are Indians fans, so I was blessed with that curse of following their footsteps. My grandfather always wanted to see another WS in CLE but he passed in 2007. So I am thinking of entering into the 1949 season with CLE and playing on from there to see if I can get him that title.

However, I've been following the 2016 SIM seasons on here and this has me intrigued from a fantasy perspective. Chris Carter with 59 and 40 bombs in two separate seasons? I mean the guy has wicked power in a hitters park but there is no way....this actually happens. And the Indians winning it all? Get out of town with that.....we know how this story ends. Anyone ever use the results in their drafts? LOL. Am I crazy, but Carter for $1 late round buy seems like all profit!!!

I look forward to any responses and meeting some of you....oh yeah, any tips for my first time? LMAO....

Welcome to OOTP and the community! A historical Indians game sounds pretty good - my advice for the first time is don't try to do too much - just bite off a bit of the game and sort of learn how things work bit by bit. It's a complicated game and there is a learning curve but totally worth it once it's through.

Cleveland won the World Series in two separate simulations for me; they have a good team, or OOTP likes them. It was for real, they had excellent pitching, good defense and solid hitting. Welcome to the OOTP world --- I guarantee you will love this game. I have been an OOTP addict since the beginning in 2002.

Do you ever sleep because I feel like this game is better than sleep? And I love my sleep?

Of course, in limited quantity. I am not much of a sleeper anyway. I blame my 23 years of service in the Navy for that. This is a complicated game, but wow - it is so deep; and the realism you won't find anywhere else.

I think you will absolutely love this game, but remember to sleep as well!

I'm not a huge gamer, either.

I LOVE this series, and my early thoughts on this version specifically is I am going to LOVE this version as well.

First timer tip? Since there will be an update coming soon regarding Opening Day rosters, I would open up with a historical season and play around with it. Do that 1949 Cleveland team. I'd like to know how that works for you. I ran the 1994 Montreal season as my first one today, and I really like how it played out. You could set it up to have historically accurate transactions (which of course limits moves you can make), or you could set it up to where you can make any transaction you want.

While I highly doubt Chris Carter makes enough contact to hit 59 home runs, he certainly has enough power to do it. And Miller Park is a good park for hitting. I don't think 40 is all that out of line. He hit 37 in 2014, so 40 as at least possible, if not probable.
