Player attribute shooting range
Traditionally when you talk about hockey and shooting you talk about a players slap shot or wrist shot. In FHM2 you have shooting range.
I'm wondering why the developers decided to use shooting range instead of slap shot and wrist shot like you would normally see. So far the games I have played sim realistic results. |

For a game oriented towards producing accurate statistical results, it makes more sense to build the shot resolution system around something that can be measured precisely, instead of an objective description like shot types. You can watch a replay and know exactly where a shot was taken from; you can see how often shot attempts by a player miss from certain ranges. Evaluating what type of shot was taken gets a lot fuzzier. Is a snap shot a wristshot or slapshot? How much of a backswing do you need on a one-timer before it's considered a slapshot? Should a backhander be classified as a wrist shot? If it is, my wrist shot's pretty good, but I'm terrible on the backhand, so how would I be rated? How does the player AI decide when to use which type of shot?
It also allows the difference between the shooting tendencies of defencemen and forwards to be made a little clearer and produce more position-accurate results (and we have measures to adjust those when the players are playing out of position, F at D or vice-versa.) |
