Pitcher edged out for pitching Triple Crown...by his own closer!

1871, back when men were men, and pitchers started every game for their team, barring injury, Mike Jackson was the horse for the Fort Wayne Wizards. Check out those stats!

He just missed out on the ERA crown by one point...to this guy.

Wiley Roberson, his closer (at least by 1871 standards). With friends like that, who needs enemies? Of course, since he saved 21 games for him, he probably forgave him.

Of course, pitchers in 1871 started AND FINISHED almost all of their games, so there was no such thing as a "closer" ... or saves.

This would bug me if playing historical. Of course, if it's a "what if," then anything goes and play as you like.

True, but it's a fictional league, so starting 'em all is close enough. I agree, though, in a historical it would be a bit annoying. Rosters would probably have to be about 15 or 16 players not to have more than one pitcher on the roster, whereas it's 25 in this league.

A "closer" getting 154 IP shows it's the 1800s too lol.

Also, he might have started 140 games, but I make it that he was only going about 4-5 innings per game.

From the box scores I saw, it was kinda weird...Jackson would often go eight or nine innings, but they'd sometimes inexplicably pull him after one or two.

With a salary of 17.200.000$ in 1875, 124637,68 times as much as his closer's 138$, he probably has other problems. Like "Where do I build my third money bin?" or "Should I buy Switzerland?"

Some guys had their salaries set before I changed the settings to 1871 levels, others not. Jackson got lucky, Wiley not so much.
