Weak draft classes after 2nd year?
Firstly I want to say what a great game this is, I'm from England and hardly a big baseball fan but the game is incredibly fun and addictive. I just saw it on stream and tried it and now I love it. It's very similar to the Football Manager series.
Back to my query, I am in my first game save and have noticed the draft classes have been incredibly weak after year 2. Have I just had bad luck on my save or is this a common occurrence? Drafting is a huge part of every American sport, it's exciting trying to draft the next big star and have found the lack of talent after year 2 very disappointing. This is the only negative I found with the game otherwise! |

I assume you're playing an MLB quickstart. If so, the first two drafts have a lot of real-life prospects in them that were not generated by the computer. These guys have their rankings inflated for whatever reason.
The draft classes you're seeing after years 1 & 2 are the normal computer generated classes made by the OOTP engine. These drafts will still produce the normal range of star-scurb players and it is working as intended. No worries. |

For the "real players," members of the roster team have painstakingly entered data for those players into the database. At the end of the day, someone over there needs to assign ratings to the players in such a way that they match expectations for those players. My guess is, they have been so focused on getting that data in there and consistent across the league, that there probably hasn't been a ton of focus on "how does the quality level of these real players match with that of future fictional players?" And as you have found, there is probably some disparity there. The thing is, I think it all evens out in the end. You might go through a lean year or two, or some of those weaker-looking players might turn into stars on their own. Personally, this is one of the many reasons I prefer to play in my own fictional world - no expectations for what certain players should be like! |

Picking up a fictional top end talent and seeing him grow and prosper is one of the most satisfying part in playing these sims. I am in year 2024 and the drafts have literally been filled with half a star prospects. I really hope this is something they look in to. |

Are you saying "I am talking about the years where the real life players are no longer available." ? Do you know how to post screen shots? Can you post one of you top 25 or so players in your draft pool? Do you know about the option to compare players to different league levels?

I too find the game generated draft classes don't produce one or two real star players to equal the current best players, especially batters.
What has worked for me in fictional games or mlb qs is to go to the players screen in game options and change the 5 hitter categories from 1.000 as it starts to 1.020. It's a small change but has an effect. If that is still not enough try 1.030 for contact and power leave the others at 1.020. I have found going above that produces too many star players but if you want that, raising the pcm higher will do that. |
