Over the past year I've started to playing OOTP in the mornings while I wait for my wife to get ready for work. I usually have 15-20 minutes and since I play fast using short play by play/instant, I can usually squeeze in several games before we have to leave. The great thing is, playing OOTP in the mornings has kept me and the wife from snapping at each other......mainly because I no longer ask her repeatedly if she's ready yet
I don't manage or gm in my league, I just watch. I pick a random game each day and watch it play out. So this morning, I'm pumped because I have a weekend series between the first place White Sox and second place Yankees in the AL and a battle between the first place Cubs and the second place New York Giants in the NL to choose from. In the AL the Yankees and White Sox split the first 2 games of their series, leaving the Sox up by 2 1/2 games in the standings. Sunday is a doubleheader.
So the first game of the doubleheader is a matchup between 2 of the best pitchers in the league. Larry Dierker for the Sox and Mike Krukow for the Yankees. Krukow is 17-3 and its only July 26th. Dierker is 12-6, following a 25 win season in 1946 and a 20 win season in 1947. The game remains scoreless for the first 3 innings, but the Yankees start to pick and peck Dierker and jump out to a 3 run lead. Meanwhile, Krukow hasn't allowed a hit. 6th inning, he still has the no hitter. 7th, no hits. He gets through the 8th...still no hits. I'm suddenly wide awake, but going to work is the last thing on my mind. The first batter in the 9th pops out. Only 2 outs away..........single

. Ugh! But, Krukow gets the next 2 batters, throwing a 1 hit shutout for his 18th win. The Yankees are now only 1 1/2 games back. Oh and this game also features a 72 minute rain delay.
The Second game of the doubleheader is another pretty nice pitching matchup. Cy Blanton for the Sox vs Erskine Mayer for the Yankees. Blanton just doesn't have giving up 7 runs before getting yanked. As for Erskine, well like Krukow he decides to take a run at throwing a no hitter. His no hitter gets broken up in the 8th with 2 outs. He stays in the game allowing 1 more hit and 0 runs. Yankees sweep the doubleheader and are now only a 1/2 game back.
I just had a 1 hitter followed by a 2 hitter...Do I dare play another game? Why not

The only game scheduled for July 27th is a matchup between the dismal Cincinnati Reds and the improved Philadelphia Phillies. It's always fun to watch Phillies games, due to 2 time MVP Mike Trout and I see the Reds have Clayton Kershaw on the mound for todays game. Kershaw hasn't had the best 2nd season so far 4-11, but some of that's due to the fact the Reds stink. Kershaw gives up a hit to the very first batter, so there won't be any no hitter drama this time around. Clayton proceeds to hold the Phillies scoreless for 7 innings giving up just 2 more hits and his relief mows the Reds down in order in the 8th and 9th.
So, I had a 1 hitter followed by a 2 hitter, followed by a 3 hitter. I'm almost scared to go home an fire up the game. If my next game features a pitcher throwing a 4 hit shutout, I think I will run out and buy a lotto ticket
