Should I upgrade to 16?
I got OOTP 15 and I fell in love with baseball because of it. I never touched the major league gameplay and the historical league since I am not a huge fan of MLB but I had a good time with what little league I managed to create in the custom game mode.
I am not concerned about the MLB rosters and the official MLB stuff but I only want to play as a manager of my own little world and have my own legendary players and team history. Is there a good reason for me to upgrade to OOTP 16 or should I skip a year and wait until they have released an overhaul? As much as I love OOTP and how you guys made a super awesome game without milking the fans for features that should have been in the game *cough* FM2015 charging for cheats and editor *cough* , I am a bit wary of spending my money on roster updates instead of huge improvement of mechanics. PS: I was $10 short on my steam wallet, price went down to 29.99 so I was about to purchase it but then steam wasn't gonna let me. Now I thought it is a sign that I should think things through or just wildly jump in since you guys produce quality work. |

My major concern with yearly release like this is how much new content is released and whether or not we are only paying for annual roster updates. I would personally be more comfortable if devs would let's say adopt something like what paradox do with their strategy games. They use an engine for a game, support it with free updates and paid expansions then when they developed a new engine they release a new whole game instead of doing an annual release. I am a bit wary of spending money on annual release since most greedy companies pretty much release only roster updates with no changes under the hood. I trust these guys and I must say that they did a bloody good job to convert someone who doesn't know a thing about baseball to get the game. Oh well, I got the game so I better finish this take home exam and play the heck out of the game. PS: Any good resources in particular for total beginners? Especially one who is struggling more on arranging batting line-ups and who should play on what position |

I would have quit buying this game years ago if all it was about was roster updates. Of all the ways to play, the MLB Quickstart is the one method of play I just can't get into. Something just doesn't feel right. I usually fire it up at least 2 or 3 times each version to give it a twirl, but if I make it out of April before losing interest it's rare. I think a lot has to do with the massive amount of players involved. Just not my cup of tea.
16 has all-star voting, Hall of Fame voting, Logos---if you create a fictional league and don't want to spend the time naming each team, you can now let OOTP do so, and all the teams will have logos and uniforms. Manager mode was added. Huge improvement over older versions. |

For me, just being able to move the cursor over a player and get his stats for the last three years was worth upgrading. I play fictional so new rosters don't interest me, but 16 has other improvements that make it more than worthwhile.

Yep, I thought 16 would be similar, but when I go back to 15 to play in an online league, I think "this sucks"

Huge jump imho.. I've already played it more than 15. Lots of just really neat little things I just keep noticing.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Yes I updated to it. I am no american and I didn't grow up loving the sport but 15 made me fall in love with baseball.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could point me to a guide on picking my batting and pitching line-ups? I used to have one bookmarked but it disappeared. |
