Well, trans-posting what I said over there:

Bru would have his News Subscription Settings as shown below. Reasons:

1. All of these potential inbox-stuffing messages can be scanned at a glance as headlines in the newspaper and the eye-catching ones can be read there.
2. Therefore, the impulse to constantly interrupt what one is doing to read and empty mailbox messages is eliminated.
3. Instead, one makes it a habit to "read" the newspaper periodically; for example, if one is auto-saving every week, one links that in his mind to "time to read the newspaper"!
4. ONLY news for shortlisted players goes to my mailbox (along with personal messages, of course). These I want to pay specific attention to and possibly save for future reference and analysis.

But I will tweak it a bit now with what I show below. The reason why I brought back those two categories, BNN news stories and Special accomplishments, is because I wanted to be sure that I did not miss any of those types of news among all the other articles in the newspaper.

By the way, that third category, News involving shortlisted players, was important to me back in January when I wrote that post. Now, though, with multiple shortlists available for the first time in OOTP16, I can use this setting to receive news of all sorts of players in whom I am interested for varying reasons and who therefore appear on my various shortlists. This option is more useful than ever, as a result.

I pretty much use the same as Deja bru except I have transactions checked also. I like to keep an eye on trades my competition makes.

i use lists for various things. i shortlist high-end minor league prospects - by position. some of the reason is purely cosmetic to make it easier to recognize them on various team pages and the minor league rosters page.

temporary lists are also useful to me. in a fantasy draft or a normal draft i'll shortlist what i consider worthwhile targets. it helps with timing of selections and other things.

from the amateur draft temp lists, i might keep a few of those on a "to-watch" list - possibly by position if there are enough names. especially pitching prospects. it just depends on what i am short on at the time or actually 2-3+ years in the future.

basically anywhere it will save me time of searching or writing down names, etc. mostly prospects and trade/FA targets, but even if it is merely cosmetic, and it helps you work out something else.

not that i can see. you remove from one, they are removed from all. make a report to disk, screenshot, or a handy txt document, i guess.

i don't worry about the levels. i only use it for functionality. it makes it easier to identify future trade targets, draft picks, and even cosmetically it's easier to spot the players. even though i have the lists, i do search a bit for the right fit, and it's incredibly easy to spot the non capitalized players that slipped by the first time.

if you like keeping track of top prospects and watching if they develop, then it's a great idea. and it's easy to compartmentalize function and curiousity with multiple lists.


as far as newspapers and immersion:

i'm the wrong guy for that. i do no news, only personal message and news on shortlisted players. this game is so complex, and i like to micromanage too much of it already. so, i try to slim down other usage.
