Is DiMaggio's Streak Truly Unbreakable?
I've been playing OOTP since '13...I've played around 250 seasons in total...the longest hitting streak I've ever seen was 37 games.
Anyone ever seen longer, or better yet, ever seen DiMaggio's streak beaten? |

In 15, one of my fictional guys, an Australian by the name of Bailey Huber, hit for 47 straight games.
Never seen Dimaggio's streak broken, and Huber was the greatest player to play the game of baseball since Babe Ruth. |

Here's some additional food for thought:
Folks are familiar with DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak in the majors. What folks are probably unaware of is that DiMaggio had a 61-game hitting streak in the minor leagues, while playing for San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League in 1933. (He was just 18 years old at the time.) The longest hitting streak in the minors was 69 games, set by Joe Wilhoit in 1919. |

It is certainly breakable. Tough one to break, but certainly feasible.
There are records that are a lot more unbreakable than the Streak. Like 60 games won by a pitcher in 1 season. Or 513 strikeouts by a pitcher in 1 season. Or 75 complete games. Or 50 assists by an outfielder. or.....the list goes on. |

It will NEVER be broken in real life. Not unless the MLB environment massively changes, and I just don't see it.

DiMaggio's record is so fantastic because it IS still feasible, but no one can even get close. I mean, when someone gets within single digits of that record, I'll believe it has a shot of falling. No one has even been close. Nowadays, with all of the specialist relievers and all the other nonsense (the social media pressure from even a 40-game streak would be ridiculous) I put it as one of sport's more unbreakable records.

The tough part will be getting the official scores on your side like DiMaggio did.....there were a couple of questionable calls that kept it alive. Although, then again, nowadays, it is hard to make anything other than a throwing error unless you absolutely butcher the play.

Instant replay is also going to remove the human element from any close plays at the bag on infield hits to keep it alive, as well.
No more breaks on a bang-bang play at the bag to extend a streak.

I saw a AI player have a 57 game streak in OOTP15 and that was in a 80 game season. In OOTP16 I've seen one streak in the 30s and a bunch in the 20s.

Although he failed to get a hit in Game 57, DiMaggio did walk to reach base in a streak that would extend to 74 consecutive games (second all-time to Ted Williams mark of 84 games in 1949).

I did have someone break the streak in 14, over 2 seasons he ended up at 65 games, 38/27, but in the playoffs in between he had several hitless games, I wondered how such a thing would have gone over in the real world, asterisk anyone?

He would be credited with a 65 game hit streak. Hit streaks only count during regular season and can carry over from one season to the next.

There are actually 2 separate records, one for single-season hitting streak and one for multi-season streaks. So to erase DiMaggio from the record book, you'd have to do it in one season.

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ml#post3801042 Joe DiMaggio in the ABF has a hit streak of 31 games in 1942 as of 1950. He is 34 so doubtful he will do much better.

In over 75 seasons between four OOTP leagues, I've never seen one longer than 39 games. In my 31 seasons & counting fictional league, the longest is 35 games, and only three others have hit the 30 mark!

I had a hands-off league in v.15 (a bug happened where the FAs didn't join the "available" pile after declaring, so I ran a test to see if it was a recurring issue) and, within 15 or so years, I had one 40-game streak, but nothing more.
