The Phenom, Kris Bryant

I started a game as the Twins. One of my first moves was to acquire Kris Bryant in a huge blockbuster.

So here I am in September of 2016.

Kris Bryant MLB Stats:

2015: .295/.341/.432 - 11 HR - 56 RBI - 4 SB - 431 AB's - 103 Games

2016: (As of Sept. 1) .269/.349/.517 - 30 HR - 108 RBI - 1 SB - 472 AB's - 123 Games

He played 3B in 2015. I have since moved him to RF.

Jorge Polanco, Oswaldo Arcia, Eddie Rosario, Max Kepler, and Lewis Thorpe for Bryant and Jokisch.

Of course it would never happen in real life. But the Cubs actually agreed to this.

His 2016 stats are probably exactly where he'll probably hit in the majors maybe with more home runs but not far off...OOTP is eerily accurate.

Curious:

How have Bryant and guys like Soler and Addison Russell developed in other players games (games that started using v16 rosters)?

I ran a league until 2035. The Cubs with Soler, Russel, Bryant, Baez and company made the playoffs in 2016-2024 with a WS win in 2024.

I don't remember all the numbers, but Bryant, Baez, and Soler were hitting 30+ HRs each season.

I'm playing as the Cubs (2017 season, GM only) and just can't get Bryant to hit well. He's struggled to get a OBP over 300 and hasn't hit more than 15 homers.

I even sent him back to AAA in 2016 and 2017.

I've thought about trading him but seeing the numbers posted here, maybe I should wait it out.

They're all studs. I'm in 2020 and they're all at least 75/75. A couple years ago Rizzo Bryant and Soler were top 3 in homers in the NL

Remember that players develop differently in every single game. If your scout thinks that he's still a great player by all means start him and wait it out. If his potential ratings have dropped thems just the breaks.

When i imported all minor leaguers with no ML exp over around OOTP 13 Kris Bryant never even played minor league baseball.
Russell has been great (.269/.328/.401 111 HR 1141 K in 9 sns) for Oakland and LA Dodgers.
Soler is still on the Cubs as of 2023 and hits .276/.317/.429 224 HR 795 RBI 1113 k in 10 seasons.
Baez plays in the CBF .263/.301/.470 236 HR 1418 K in 9 sns.
Rizzo is terrible.

This is exactly why I always play with fictional players. Too easy to get attached to a real world name and inject personal biases.

Depressing Cubs

I've always been a Cubs fan, and it's been great to play OOTP when the Cubs have been poor, as getting any kind of winnning season felt like an achievement, but this year I kind of wish I hadn't bought OOTP:

The real Cubs are exciting, the rookies are all impressive and Rizzo is absolutely awesome.

Meanwhile in my OOTP game, Rizzo appears to have morphed into Adam Dunn and is hitting around 200 with the ocassional long ball, Soler and Russell are showing moments of promise but are both generally struggling, and Kris Bryant is heading for the record for most woeful performance by a promising rookie ever - averaging an error every 3 games, hitting .111 and whiffing 8 times for every walk. He's actually doing so badly he's making Olt look good!

I don't understand how they do so well for people in 2015. Every league I start, they're all one star guys (with 5 star potential). They don't do well in 2015.

I actually play with an expansion team and in year 2018 (started 2015) I traded for Polanco and Arcia.
Polanco never amounted to much for me but Arcia won the MVP for me and he's 5 stars.

Arcia MVP Stat Line (158 gms, 702 PA, 84 XBH, 46 HR, 109 RBI, .332/.417/.630, 7.8 WAR) Probably the best stat line a player on my team has ever had.

For me in my cubs game it wasnt bryant or russell or soler that turned into a superstar, or even a star. Bryant was 30 hr but strugglwd with obp and Ks, soler and russell were solid players. But jeimer candelario was a one star when i used him to replace an injured bryant, he hit .350/.450/.580 in 30 games so i decided to trade my LF, put bryant there slide candelario in at 3B and it turned out great. Bryant finally had an obp above .320 and candelario won ROY hitting .310/.420/.500 with 32 HR the rest of the year. He has hit .340/.480/.600 over the past 5 years with 206 HR. And hes locked up for 8 years $17000000 AAV. The tale of the overlooked prospect. Thank god bryant got injured because at the time i was thinking about trading him since his ratings were pretty good but not better than bryants at the moment so wanted to give him playing time elsewhere

i've seen Bryant boom and bust -- mostly boom. the only prospect i can think of that i haven't seen bust in the 50 or so sims I've done on this OOTP version is Pederson. i had one arc where Pederson was traded to the Rangers and put up three straight 10+ WAR seasons including one with 66 homeruns.

last year's OOTP sure thing boom prospect for me was Taveras (RIP).
