Indy league purchase fees

One thing I've been considering tinkering with is the Indy league purchase fees. Specifically, I'm thinking of cranking them way down. Here is what I'm thinking.

The default setting is $250K; not a ton, but not insignificant (certainly more of a financial commitment than a free MiLC). As a result, unless there's a real diamond in the rough, I just opt to sift through the free agent pool if I need to fill a roster spot. I'm starting to wonder if such a high amount gives me a little bit of an unfair edge against the AI, which tends to be willing to spend that amount on absolute minor league filler.

Also, when looking at the financials of the default Indy leagues, $250K seems like an exorbitant amount for a team to receive. Like if a team had a few players that got purchased, could that change the dynamics of the league significantly? I haven't looked much into this, just wondering.

Lowering the fee sounds like a good option, but would that create an unrealistic amount of Indy league signings? Has anybody played around with this before? Is there a different purchase price you've come to like?

Indy league purchase fees

I've seen a indy team sign a player to a minor league contract (why are they able to offer a minor league contract anyway?) with a 400k signing bonus, since then I've set the fee to 5k. Which seem to be the asking price for Atlantic league players (actually between 3k - 5k) its obvious that teams had way too much cash to spend.

One... 99% of the time MLB teams are buying minor league filler when they buy a player from an indy league.

Two... the lower the number the more (and worse) players teams will buy. You'll even hit a point where teams are buying 20-30 players and turning over much of their minor leagues.

I play exclusively with 250,000 after a ton of testing. Maybe 200,000 would be good it wasn't that bad BUT if you're already thinking all the AI is doing is signing minor league filler. Then it's only going to get worse when you lower the number.

I set the fee as low as $1 and the amount of players being purchased did not change at all. I guess it depends how a person's league/world is set up.

If I am not mistaken, I believe the default $250,000 fee was put in place to help the teams financially.

Have you paid attention to how frequent Indy league purchases are? I was considering setting the fee at 25k myself, but from what ra7c7er said it sounds like that will create an unrealistic amount of signings.

Personally, I don't care if it's a little more than real life, but I don't want it to be ridiculous.

edit: I see you answered that

I say about 40-60 average from the atlantic league alone(same range whether I used 250k or $1). IRL Atlantic league sell about 20-30 a year.

Good thread. I have created an Indy League that will do yearly free agent drafts. It is working fantastic. I have noticed a lot of players getting signed in the offseason when set at a $50,000 purchase price so I have raised it up to 100,000 to see how that goes. Would love to see some sort of email when an MLB team purchases one of your players, or some sort of heads up. I have to keep daily tabs on my rosters to know when this happens.
