Game won't advance past a certain date?

No matter if I quit the game and open it again, the game won't sim past May 29. It acts like I hit the "finish today" or "sim day" button, but it just stops at 100% loading and stays on it for eternity.

What has gone wrong and how do I fix it?

I had this happen to me, for some reason turning playoffs on/off for the minor leagues seemed to fix it, but that was in September so it might be a different problem.
