Can't insert a pinch hitter?

I'm in the middle of a game as I type this, and I'm unable to drag a player from my bench into the lineup to pinch-hit for my pitcher. I can drag him to other positions just fine, just not into the spot I want. When I try, I'm not prompted to confirm the substitution, the dragged player just disappears and I can't use him, so now I'm stuck with the pitcher hitting.

It's not a huge deal, tactically, as I'm up by 4 in the top of the 8th. But that doesn't matter, as I certainly should be able to pinch hit regardless of the situation.

edit: In my confusion, I realized what I had done. I had dropped a relief pitcher into the #9 spot in the top of the inning without thinking of it when I meant to sit him down. So I couldn't pinch-hit for him because he had been announced but hadn't actually done anything in the game yet. My bad!
