OOTP 16 crashed and when I re-loaded, it went back a season...

So, I had just finished the 2017 season. It was a bit weird because the teams played 160 games, not 162. In addition, the game didn't finish the world series. Regardless, my team was out of the playoffs and I simulated through until the offseason where I made several trades, signings, etc.

In the middle of this, OOTP16 crashes. I re-start the game, load my franchise, and it took be back to the beginning of last offseason..erasing the season I just played and all the moves from the previous offseason. I can barley remember this team!

Very weird. I had thought the game was auto-saving, is this not the case? Sorry for the rookie questions..love this game..but some weird bugs it seems like.

Thanks!

For future reference, auto-save daily plus frequent backups plus saving your game.lg file to an external hard drive is your best friend. Alas, there is nothing you can do to remedy this now, but we've all been there and learned the hard way how crushing it is to lose a huge chunk of your game, and have to start over again. FWIW, the game only auto-saves once per year on the default setting. In order to change it, go to Game Settings > Global Settings > Auto-Save & Log Settings where you can select whether you want it to auto-save yearly, monthly, weekly, or daily. Your choice, but saving daily is relatively painless and also saves you from the kind of pain you're experiencing now. Sort of a 2 for 1 deal.

Ah, thank you. Just did that and now it makes sense. I was thinking of starting over again anyway because I hated how certain players progressed 2 years in. Superstars had become 1-2 star players. (Me justifying this horrific incident )

Thanks again!

I set to auto-save daily, and I manually backup at the end of every series. At the end of the season, I've started uploading my file to an external server in case of a hard drive crash I would only lose at most one season.

OOTP is far more stable than in past versions, but as the previous poster said, daily saves isn't that much of an inconvenience, and the one time it saves your league will make it all worth it.

Sorry about your league.
