OOTP 15 Career Progress Thread
I started one of these for OOTP 13 and got a lot of replies. I love reading about how other people's universes are shaping up, what kind of team they are building, etc. So, how is YOUR game going?!
I have just started a fictional league with the same structure as the MLB (and college/hs feeder league). Originally in my first test run I included a Japanese league and a mexican league as well as a way to get international free agents... I had some problems with the international leagues so I decided to ditch them and instead set-up my feeder leagues so that there is approximately 50% players coming from the US and the other 40% coming from the other 5* quality nations with 10% from random countries.
My league began in 2014. I simmed about 5 seasons to make sure everything was working okay and then deleted all league history. I simmed another 1 season to have some stats to look at (playing stats-only) and then jumped into the game at the 2020 season by picking the team that would be the biggest challenge.
Well, I looked over the teams and one team easily stood out above the others as the biggest challenge, the Memphis Chickawas who finished the inaugural season at 67-95. Tiny market size, "pathetic" fan loyalty, 37 fan interest, and a fiscally "controlling" owner. The team has far and away the smallest budget... $70 million when I took over and it has dropped to $64 million this year, with a projection of $61 million next season. Not to mention a bottom 5 farm system. Right now in 2021 I am sitting at a $64 million budget, the next lowest budget is $81 mil. and then other teams are sitting between $100 and $200 million!
I finished my first season (2020) at 71-91 and so far in 2021 I am 39-46. My unexpected star player has been 1B/OF Chip Evans. In the season before I took over (2019) he did not do very well and he only barely made the team as a utility player after a solid spring training. He currently leads the league in homers and is on pace for 55! My first round pick from last year, 23 year old LF Tommy Helton has made his way onto my active roster due to injuries and he has been tearing it up, hitting .305 with 10 HR and 30 RBI in 58 games. Things are changing in Memphis! Although it is going to be tough to field a strong team and hang onto my stars every year due to my very low budget.
