Reading Talent - Help

12 years in to my league and i have never developed a SP. So, i took the Yankees way out - i just traded my All Star CF and a 2nd rd pick to Washington for the #1 Prospect as rated by OSA.

Now that i have him - how do i read his ratings? He's listed as #1 - but he's already 22 and he still only has 1 star. Why is his rating so low? Should he be in my major league rotation? Will i stunt his growth leaving him in AAA?

Fairly certain i will screw him up without some helpful advice....

How many years did he spent in AAA already? He may not be ready for the bigs yet, but after one or two seasons in AAA he should be.

Then again, he might never reach his potential. Wouldn't be the first high draft pick that doesn't make it.

Call him up in September, if you are out of contention, and see how he does against the big guys.

I'd leave him in AAA his ratings are at least (or around) 60/60/50 (at the bare minimum, but I would probably leave him for a bit longer depending on my MLB situation) but make sure that his control improves a ton cause that BB/9 does not look good. This guy probably needs another season or two.

EDIT: maybe give us an update after this season (and make sure it's a fresh scouting report)

Small sample size, the BB/9 comes from just two games. Agree his control needs improvement though.

Here are his minor league stats thus far....not overwhelmingly good - but fairly decent for a new pitcher.

I am tied for first place with 3/5ths of my rotation in good shape. 2 starters are out until September - my ACE and my #3.

Right now, September call up, spot start 2 or 3 games, the rest pitch out of the pen, just to get a better look at the MLB level.
