Hall of Famer?
In a time where relievers were seldom used, Carlos Salazar dominated whenever he was. 15 years of domination out of the bullpen, certainly has left his marks in the USBA history books. After 25 years of the USBA he still has the lowest career ERA of any pitcher in the leagues history. Since his retirement 9 years ago, he has been the topic of great debate between fans, media, and the USBA bigwigs. Despite eyepopping career numbers in the ERA, WHIP, and other categories, the powers that be have kept him out of the Hall of Fame because he didn't pitch in many games, even though it was at no fault of his own. Should he be punished for being a relief pitcher during a time where there was not much need for relief? Or should he be enshrined so 100 years from now baseball fans can recognize unbelievable talent and a great star that just didn't get to shine much? You decide:

Wow, he went 39.1 innings his rookie year without allowing a run.
The ERA, and WHIP speak for themselves. I think the fact that he only gave up 671 hits in 909.2 innings is significant. He gave up a good amount of walks, but a 7.6 K/9 in the early 1900s is really really impressive. I'm a pushover, and feel bad for the guy, so he has my vote. |

Here's expanded pitching stats. I guess I should also note batters were .205 against him.

How many non closers, non SP are in the HOF? I can't think of any. As dominant as he was I say no. A poll would have been helpful.

I like the fact that he only gave up 2 HR!

I would say no due to the lack of innings pitched. There's no doubt he dominated, but it seems that he never came in when the game mattered. His BB/9 is also a little too high for my liking,
My vote: No |

I disagree with this. Isn't it his fault that he wasn't good enough to be a starter?

If he'd gone on a bit longer - and pitched in a lot more games - he might have ended up with a career similar to this guy...
![]() Murakami had some great seasons as both a middle reliever and closer, but isn't really a HOF-caliber guy. So, while your guy was better over a shorter time, I don't think he's quite in that category, either. Last edited by ThatSeventiesGuy; 08-17-2014 at 01:38 PM. |

Mr. Salazar is no longer eligible for the Hall of Fame.
Thanks for the input. |
