Arghh

Within a few weeks of each other I have lost 2 of my top 3 starting pitchers. Sebastian Fritsch
my ace has decided that after the season he will join the military and will be gone indefinately. Then about 3 weeks later Jeff Nisbet by #3 starter is arrested for an embezzlement scheme and will be forced to retire due to jail time! Moments like these make me love and hate this game at the same time. Does anyone know if I will still have to pay the salary of the players in question?

Fritsch was in on the scam but he ran to the military to avoid jail time.

I blame the manager.

I just lost my Ace to TJ and my #1 pitching prospect with a torn rotator cuff.
I thought I had it rough, but man, you win

I lost my entire starting rotation to injuries one season. It was ugly.

I think the embezzlement guy does actually "retire" so he comes off the payroll. The military leave is interesting - I've never seen that one before. I think the proper thing for the game to do is to put him on "suspension" and not have him paid (although it sounds unpatriotic, I checked my company's employee manual just now and "Military Leave" comes under the heading of "Unpaid Leave"). I'd like to hear from you as to whether he is still on your payroll - can you check periodically and advise?

The military guy ended up coming back in 12 months exactly. It was listed as an unknown injury. I was happy that he ended up coming back as he was my best pitcher but he did stay on the payroll the entire year he was gone.

FYI, The military is not for people running from jail. there is no such thing as "go to war or go to jail". at least not since Vietnam.

That's actually not totally correct. I knew an exception, who had stolen a truck at 18 and who got that choice, but he was an exception because he had a powerful politician for a family friend and he was never formerly arrested or charged but was allowed to go enlist instead. He was wounded in Kuwait.

What you are referring to may happen under the table. But it's very much illegal.

No need to get rude. I know you were making a joke but there are a lot of misconceptions about the military.

Without meaning to pile on kingtut at all, I agree with your response.

Thanks for coming back and posting this. I had forgotten that I asked the question and was pleasantly surprised to see the answer. Well, that's an interesting storyline. I welcome these anecdotes even though it may have an effect on my team. But that's (simulated) real life and it should be in the game (as an option).
