Always a good day to blow $132,000,000
I get the cream of the crop in FA to sign with me. He has no injury history really. I decide to lock him up and have the best pitcher in the game retire as an Oiler. I sign him for 6 years, $132 mil. He begins the season playing the best ball in his career for me. My team is at the top of the league!
Then this happens. By the time Kikuchi recovers (if), he will be a 35 year old starting pitcher with a major injury in his records. I think I may have wasted a lot of money! ![]() |

I fully sympathize, but you don't get the medal until you have lost your entire starting rotation to injury.

THAT sucks. Realistic though. Pitching at 90+ mph must be unnatural. Being a quarterback carries less risk of surgery....brain trauma but not surgery.

Don't despair. Let him come back and perhaps he can be effective. If not then perhaps he can move into a long relief role and with careful management pitch about 150 IP a year with a few starts here and there.

Plenty of pitchers can come back from UCL tears and still be just as successful

If he has no injury history, then what happened to his 2008 season, when he was 26? The screen capture shows AAA service for 2010, yet nothing for 2008. That's exactly why I never sign anyone over the age of 32. OOTP players go downhill quickly. 28 to 30, you get the 6-8 year deal; 30-32, 3 - maybe 4 years; 32+ only if you've played for me your entire career, and are quite possibly on a HOF track

It's gotten to the point where folks assume that a player will automatically fully recover after Tommy John. But as that quote references, there's still a significant chance (10-15%) that any given player won't fully recover. That's actually a pretty big deal, and recovery really shouldn't be treated as a given. I certainly wouldn't want to trust my life (or career) to those odds, relatively favorable as they may be.

I saw the small injury in '10 but considered it minor compared to the rest of his career. Maybe I'll try to trade him. Does the AI pay attention to the injury rating? |
