A 5-spot in the 7th turned out to be key. Ricky Nolasco was sharp on Opening Day hurling a CG, striking out 10 and walking none. Joe Mauer was 2-5 with a HR and 3 RBI. Josh Willingham had a tough day as he was plunked 3 times in this one.

Mike Pelfrey (0-0, 0.00) vs. John Danks (0-0, 0.00)

SAC Fly by Paul Konerko gave the White Sox an early 1-0 lead in the 1st. Mike Pelfrey settled in after that and got some help from the bats in the 4th and 5th for a 3-1 lead. The White Sox tied it back up in the 6th courtesy of an Adam Dunn solo HR and Conor Gillaspie RBI single. Joe Mauer hit his 2nd HR of the young season to break the dead lock in the 8th. He's off to a hot start with 2 HR and 7 RBI in the first 3 games. Another Conor Gillaspie RBI single tied it in the bottom of the 8th at 4-4. We took the lead again on a Brian Dozier RBI walk with the bases loaded in the top of the 9th. Glen Perkins closed the door in the 9th to give us a sweep to start the season.

Phil Hughes was cruising until the 4th inning and then couldn't make it out of the 5th. Josh Donaldson's grand slam in the 5th chased Hughes. They wouldn't stop there as they tallied 11 in a blowout 11-2 loss. Derek Norris also homered for the first time, going 2-5 with a HR and 3 RBI in this one.

RP Brian Duensing was eligible to return from the DL after this one. RP Samuel Deduno will be optioned to AAA Rochester to make room on the active roster. Deduno sports a 6.75 ERA to this point in 4 innings over 3 appearances. Duensing will add another veteran lefty to the pen. We also optioned SP Kyle Gibson to AAA Rochester. and purchased the contract of SP Alex Meyer from AAA. Meyer will make his major league debut on Thursday in the series finale against Oakland. With the early struggles of our pitching we have offered veteran SP Tommy Hanson a minor league contract.

Tomorrow is a scheduled off day in this series.
