Well that's an ML debut to forget...

I called this guy up at the start of the season to be my 5th starter, and because of off days, etc he didn't get his first game until May 10th. He might not want to remember it though:

Did I leave him in too long? Perhaps very slightly, but I wanted to give him a shot to get out of a jam.

Rust might've been a massive issue if he didn't pitch for 5 weeks. Should've had him in AAA.

I thought players only accrued rust in the offseason or on the DL?

That's the only documented cause of rust that I've seen. Doesn't mean the layoff didn't cause some, though.

My question, though, is if you didn't pitch him that whole time, why didn't you put him in Triple-A and add a reliever to your roster? Or use him in a relief role?

I'm not entirely sure really. I don't claim to be a good manager though lol.

Haha, fair enough. Just don't tell your owner that!

His game score was a 7! I would say no, that's not the way to start a career haha

That's legendarily bad. Only 10 players in the last 100 years have had a GS of 7 of worse in their first career game.

Here's to hoping he's a Jim Johnson and not a Pedro Hernandez.

He didn't walk a guy or give up any HRs though, so there's a positive!

And I just checked, he was actually in AAA to start the season, so rust wasn't the issue.

Look at the bright side, he didn't give up any homers and he struck out one guy.

No walks. He was pitching to contact. Ouch.
