Issues With Firings
Anyone else think the engine that decides the fate of GMs and managers is a little too hasty?
In my new league starting in 1993, both the GM and manager of the expansion teams were canned after the first season. I was also canned in a 2014 league 2 months into a season with the Twins after being above .500 the year before. I think there needs to be better logic built in for new GMs and managers to at least have a shot at building/re-building a team before getting the ax.

I agree 100%.
The logic needs to be improved. It feels random. It feels like a number generator decides who gets fired. I know that it is a number generator that makes this decision but it shouldn't feel that way. With all that said, here is how I overcome what I perceive to be a flaw in design: I check do not fire for a predetermined number of years and call it a no-termination clause. For instance, if I take over an expansion team I will give myself a 5-year no termination clause. After that I uncheck and let the chips fall as they may. |

Yeah. I know. It's too arduous a task to go through every firing and determine if the guy should be manually put back in his job. Maybe not though. I'm going to start reviewing firings and see if it's doable. I'll just assume that when a firing is announced that it is actually a request that must be approved by the commissioner's office. I'll then deceide if the GM should be fired after all. Seems like a lot of work but maybe it will help me get to know the GM's in the league. Maybe it will be good for immersion. Maybe it was coded this way so that we would stat to do this. Maybe it was a sinister ploy to get us more immersed.

This is a problem I keep running into. If I didn't consistently jump in to extend coaches and gm's that have won championships with those teams. I hate to think a World Series champion coach or GM can get fired off 1 bad season.
But that's as far as I go with the commisioner stuff on this. Only the World Series winners get that treatment from me. Otherwise it's "NBA type" fair game.

As a related question, do teams or players/teams get any kind of "bump" after a manager is fired? I only ask b/c Cincy's manager was fired in September 2014 in my current sim, with the team mired in last place. After that they surged and nearly won their division, missing out by 2 games. (Still only finished 82-80, so it was a down year for the NL Central.)

I took the 1977 expansion Blue Jays and took them to 60 wins in their first season (better than the 54 in real life), next year I won 78 games and the owner wanted a better than 500 record, then I took the team to 89 wins in year three, the owner was happy, i got off to a bad start and was fired on June 12 the very next year, so yes, I think that the engine controlling firing is way too sensitive!
