Fictional Help

I tried to recreate the 1871 NA with fictional players. I would like to have 2 pitchers at the most and 13 others. I did the draft twice and I get way more pitchers. My team had 7 SP and 7 positional players. What am I missing to get what I want.

Have you looked at: League settings --> Stats & AI...and then looked for settings for number of staring pitchers, etc? You can access this during league creation or, I'm pretty sure, afterwards.

And if this isn't helpful, just classify my posting as "fictional help."

I don't usually hold drafts, so I'm guessing here. I think this might be a clash between the way the game drafts and the way the game tries to recreate 19th century rosters. As I understand it, the game drafts the best player available, regardless of the team's needs at any position. So, for instance, if the team needs a third baseman but the best player available in the draft is a reliever, the AI will draft the reliever and then try to pick up a third baseman through trades or other roster moves. I don't think the AI takes the roster limitations into consideration at the draft stage.

What you may need to do, then, is restrict the number of pitchers available in the draft pool. You can set the number of players available at each position. That way, the AI won't overload on pitchers.

Thanks for the reply.
How do I restrict the number of pitchers?

Go into the free agent menu. If you've already created a free agent class, select pitchers from the position dropdown. At this point, I think the best thing to do is delete all of the pitchers. Then create new free agents, using the buttons on the lower right side of the screen. If you want each team to have two pitchers, then the total number should be around 3 or 4 per team.

What about the initial draft, how do you do it for that?

I'm just firing a wet noodle against the wall here, so I have no idea if what I'm suggesting will work. What if you use the fill teams with fictional players(just for your major league level) and then release those players for a draft? That would give you 225 players in your draft.

Thanks for the suggestion but I believe an initial draft must be done for any pre 1901 league. I want mine to start in 1870 or 1871 to get the historical rookies But i wil try it and see if it works

I think i solved my own problem. i created a historical league and edited the structure for 9 teams. Ran a test and decided it was good enough for what i wanted to do.
