Play style question

I understand Commish mode is much more limited in FHM than ootp. So in my continued debate about whether or not to take the plunge (even knowing in six months there may be FHM2), here is a question:

If you are more the type who likes to set up a world and watch it evolve and change rather than play a particular team for decades, is that doable? Or is this more centered on one team control?

No you can do that. By 'set up world' if you mean your own Custom World then right now, not really. You can change the names/locations of the NHL for example and little things but its not full on customisable yet.

This thread will let you in on more details on how the game is right now.

No, what I meant is that, for example, could I start, say, after the Pens win their back to back cups in the 90s, sim out the years, and see if they get more with that group, just letting the AI battle it out and observing the stats, winners, etc?

I find I really like the "sit back and watch" approach, or at most, the "GM and let the manager do the day to day work" style. If I wanted to play out the games with total control, I'd just buy a PS3 game.

Obviously, at some point, it would be cool to do more changes, but honestly, if I can observe a league hands-off once it's set up, that's the thing I'd like best. Fun to see an alternative history unfold!

Now there's the statement of the century,

For the OP - yes, you can do what you want. I do it now - play as Commish only, don't manage a team, just watch history evolve.

Cool, now I just have to decide whether to jump now or jump in at FHM2. Given new version won't be out till Fall, I'm kinda inclined to now.
