Who had a better season?
Jose Zuniga
Carl Richardson Tell me who, which guy you think is mine, and who won the Cy Young Award. I can provided expanded statistics, etc. if asked for. The one thing I won't provide is their teams' records, as that should have no impact on who is chosen for BEST PITCHER. |

Who had the highest WAR, that's who I would vote for, althought in real life, it always seems to be the guy with the most Wins on an important team. Maybe not, but this is what has been imprinted on my mind. I never really pay attention to the AI generated awards, so I couldn't begin to tell you which one the AI picked, but my guess would say the one with the extra win. And since you posted this, I'm guessing your guy was the one with the slightly better ERA? I'm curious to what their WAR stats are.

Nope, its iOOTP, which is basically the OOTP game for mobile devices. It's the same game engine, and really the same game, except for a bunch of missing features like storylines, facegen, etc. |

I don't think WAR is used in iOOTP, but I can provided expanded stats. |

I was leaning towards Zuniga before the expanded stats. His walk rate and HR rate are both better than Richardson's.

Who had a better season?
Huh. These two are so tight, I would probably be mad either way, if the one who lost was on my team.

It really is a toss up. I know you said you weren't going to include team records, but if one guy pitched in a bunch of big games in a pennant race down the stretch while the other didn't, I'd give the nod to the guy who pitched in big games at the end of the season. Unless he did poorly in those games, of course.

Have any of you guys paid enough attention to how the AI selects their award winners? Is it heavily weighted on Wins or some other statistic? Like I said, I never pay attention to end of year awards, but I'm curious now.

Richardson pitched in big games down the stretch and won all of them, but the rest of his team didn't perform well so they finished 3 games out of a wild card spot. Richardson's team finished 5th out of 6 in the best division this year. Zuniga also pitched well down the stretch, but he was only 1-0 in his last three starts due to horrible run support. However, those games didn't matter much, as they finished 14 games ahead in probably the weakest division. |

i wonder if in real life since Zuniga was obviously a higher rated pitcher coming into the season based on past performance, if he would get the nod... who am i kidding... which team made the playoff?

Zuniga's.
Since most people were leaning towards Zuniga, I will reveal who won: Zuniga, which makes Richardson my guy. However, the real Cy Young winner should have been: True dominance. |

I agree with Zuniga based on BB and HR rates as well, plus he pitched more innings.
You lost me at a closer should have won though....

ok i'm totally surprised by the spoiler. i totally expected OOTP to be wrong, and that was the whole reasoning of the post....
i guess since OOTP is supposed to mimic real life (2014 version) most time, the fact it did not pick the guy would the best W-L is what the spoiler was.. Markus and Co. good job. |
