Unhappy "Open in external browser..." No Longer Working?

I also posted this in the bug report, but maybe someone here has an idea of what's up?

"Open in external browser..." is not working, by which I mean the blue button here:

Attachment 321291

It was working great a couple of days ago, but I have been trying and trying today, and nothing. I've tried restarting the game, restarting my browser, restarting the whole machine, changing my default browser to the other two biggies, and nothing works.

I have to have this for my dynasty league, it's absolutely essential.

"Write Report to Disk" and "Create Logo & picture Preview" are both fine and functional.

Has anybody experienced this before? Hopefully there's an easy and logical finx?

The Open in external browser button does not work on any report. I've tried it on several and it has simply stopped working.

Obviously it's just my copy. I'm wondering whether anyone recognizes the problem and has a solution?

Could you have accidentally changed the program that opens an html file? Maybe it doesn't know which browser to call because the association is gone.

OK--how would I go about addressing that?

Don't have the program open right now, but I think the browser preference is under your Preferences tab. I'll check back in a few minutes. See what yours says.

Nope, don't see it. Memory playing trick on me, I guess. The association that NYY was talking about is not the game program, but the OS choice about which program does what, chuck. Like what opens .jpg etc... and possibly did change if no htmls are opening at all in the game. Working then not working certainly says something changed.

You're as bright or brighter than the rest of us on this one, I think. Let's keep looking, but let us know if you discover the cause and/or solution.

Yes, it's going to depend on what OS you are using as well. Just something worth checking to see how your html files are opening.

I also found this old thread where you can change the config file. It's old, and I've never messed with the config, but that's all I could find with a search.

If you don't mind me asking, what OS do you have? I have Windows XP Home - Mozilla Firefox 26.0 - and just tried that button on my copy (14.6 Build 33) and it works fine here.

Also, what browser do you prefer to use?

did you try re-installing ootp?

and I would run a virus scan and malware type thing, just to be safe that something didn't try and hijack your browser defaults

I have not tried reinstalling yet, but I guess that's my last resort. I don't like that because it is a pain in the butt because of the settings I have in place for the game. But I can try it and see.

I have been noticing some goofy little things happening, like this OOTP issue; the windows in Explorer jumping around; Snagit no longer scrolling to capture long web pages in Chrome and Firefox and, most concerning, Norton Internet Security appearing to not start during system startup. I've run a few full system scans and all that turns up is tracking cookies, nothing else. I've even uninstalled and reinstalled NIS. Nothing that shows up as malware. Yet all these annoying little things keep popping up and I don't know what to make of them.

I'm on Win 7, and use Chrome Version 32.0.1700.72 m.

To reiterate, it's not as though it never worked. It all worked fine, until it didn't. Also, it does not work in any browser anymore.

This stuff all sounds symptomatic of a virus. Not sure why Norton isn't catching it if so, but there's a high probability that a virus may be the issue.

try running a full scan from one of the freebie anit-virus places. some viruses can disable some security program features. I have not seen one in a while but they are out there.

Hi Chuck,

I must agree with lukasberger that there probably is a virus that somehow got past NIS. What you may want to do is if your version of NIS has the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool, I would try that even if your deep scans do not indicate there's any virus.

I downloaded what Norton called "Power eraser", which is supposed to catch viruses the NIS doesn't (don't know why they would have separate abilities, or need a "power eraser"), but it did find something called BEVENT.EXE and took it out. As a baseball guy, I know BEVENT.EXE is part of Retrosheet's database crunching tool, but I had not loaded the tool onto my computer since reformatting it, so maybe it was a bad file.

Anyway, after going through and the Power Eraser process, dumping BEVENT.EXE and starting over, everything is still the same. Nothing has changed.

I have downloaded BitDefender Free and am now installing it. It had noted there is an incompatible program (i.e., NIS) already on the machine and they recommended uninstalling it, but I didn't want to do that, so I life NIS on there. I will now wait for BitDefender to completely load and update, I will disable Norton's antivirus momentarily, and run a full system scan through bitDefender, and see how that all comes out.

Stay tuned ... I am motivated to fix this, because if I can't fix it, if it is completely unfixable (Andreas should uninstalling/reinstalling won't do any good), I'd have to give up not only the dynasty, but the whole OOTP game. I'd rather not do that if I can avoid it.

OK, I downloaded BitDefender free and I am trying to do a full system scan, but I have no idea whether it is doing it, or whether it is queueing one up for later:

Can anyone tell? If it stays like this I will have to ****can this app and download another one and try again.
