Timing of Events

I know this has been discussed in detail, but something needs to be corrected as for the timing of certain events. I just started a Random Debut League and the start year is 1910. The following took place on 4/18/1910:

Detroit star, Pee Wee Reese, is known for his hard-driving play on the field, but after what happened this week, he should probably drive a little more carefully on the roads. The star shortstop was driving late at night on a winding road and smashed right into a highway barrier. He escaped with only scrapes and bruises and is listed as day-to-day, but the bigger injuries are to his wallet and his pride--the car, which was completely totaled, was a custom built luxury Maserati valued at half a million dollars.

Now, a few issues with this. 1) Maserati was not even founded until December 1914. (Maybe the car was a prototype) 2) His yearly salary is $790.00. (Perhaps his family were oil tycoons or railroad barons) 3) The Federal-Aid Highway Act was put into effect in 1938. (If it is like our current government, perhaps this is a lie)

Since this is a Random Debut League could this mess with the triggers for events?

That's a storyline. All storylines should have a YEAR limiter which sets the earliest and/or latest year in which a storyline can appear, and I'm fairly certain that the automobile-related storylines shouldn't appear before the invention of the automobile. That, however, isn't happening. I had that same storyline appear in 1871, so something clearly isn't working properly.

I think the developers have been alerted to this problem. Presumably, they're working on fixing it in advance of version 15.

I know it has been addressed. And I do hope it is being looked at. I could actually accept that storyline if it would have been, say a custom built Model A Ford.

This is similar to the "Kate Moss: Time Traveler" problem:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...me-travel.html

They probably should at least change the names/car models based on time frames, if nothing else.

The Model A wasn't introduced until 1927, and Fords were always priced on the low-end of the scale. Something comparable to a Maserati in 1910 might be a Marmon Model 32 or a Mercer Type 35R Raceabout.

That would be far too much work when they already have a system in place that (when it's working properly) takes care of everything. As joe mentioned, all storylines are SUPPOSED to have a flag that tells the game the time frame in which they can be used. This worked properly in OOTP13, but for some reason, these flags are not being read in OOTP14, so any storyline now has the potential to appear in any time period. It's been brought up enough times that I'm positive Markus & Co. are well aware of the issue, and will presumably fix it in OOTP15.

Curious. When it worked, did it lock the future at 2013, or was there some `new`developments (ie. crashed his Flying car)?

No one bothered writing any futuristic storylines, so 2113 would function the same as 2013. It'd be a tough thing to do properly, but it might be cool to have two or three simple storylines set in the future in OOTP15.

Pee Wee Reese didn't exist in 1910 either.

Neither did Tommy John surgery, or any of the other miracle medical procedures that most of the time fix up your players when bad things happen, instead of forcing them to retire 100% of the time. I happen to leave storylines off, but were I to get something like this, I'd just pretend the injury was sustained in some other manner and carry on. NBD.

That would be easy enough if the "minimum league year" field was actually working. I believe there is also a "maximum league year" field as well.

i had the following evaluation from my scout
Name: error.JPG
Views: 323
Size: 21.8 KB

problem is in my world there is no Cy Young Award. the pitching award is the Pedro Martinez Memorial Award (tragic death btw). so contending for Cy Young means nothing, and i would expect my outstanding scout to know this

That report should pull from the league names menu in order to get the name of the Award as established by the user.

I can't believe I never picked up on this before.

I am not going to write a word about what I think about storylines in this thread.

I agree but he could have been on the Sauk Trail. One of the 1st highways.

Storylines have their place and most games are boring without them.

I'll write two. They suck.

Three more. Turn them off.

I really, really hope the storylines in OOTP15 take a big step forward. I love the idea but 14's storylines are hard to play with.
