Players usually take qualifying offer?
I have been surprised by how many veteran players take the qualifying offer.
Is the game less likely to send players to free agency than real life in your experience? Is there something I should be looking at on the scouting report for insight on the likelyhood of a player taking the offer? Is there somewhere that shows if a player is Type-A or Type-B before I decide to offer on the arbitration screen? |

The question is are you giving QO's (arbitration in OOTP parlance) to players that shouldn't be getting them due to age and skills decline? Not every FA should be given a QO. What is the dollar value of the QO's that are being accepted? It's supposed to be the average of the top 125 salaries. So in a modern day league it should be $13-$15 million. If you have a declining veteran who may be seeking $8-$12 million a $13M QO is an automatic yes. BTW the new FA system is not working right in OOTP. I believe the game incorrectly assumes that pending FA coming out of team friendly contracts are not qualified due to the lower salary, even if the player demand is high. The current real life system does not "qualify" FA anymore. Each team is free to make a QO or not.

Thanks for the insight Rich.
I'm working from memory here, but in the game I was playing I was surprised AJP, Berkman and Nelson Cruz took the QO. I played a similar game and they both rejected it and went to FA where they all got multi-year deals. Maybe it had to do with the results of that particular season. I think it would be helpful if the head scout offered some advice on the arb. screen indicating if he believed each player would be likely or unlikely to accept the QO. In real life teams already have a good idea before they offer, it would be nice to have some insight in the game. |

I agree it isn't the scouts job. Maybe it can be a quote or tip from the agent?
"This guy can't wait to test the market" - 80% likely reject QO "This guy really wants a one year deal" - 20% will likely reject QO "We are weighing our options" - Toss up I just would like some insight into where the player thinks he stands. There are plenty to columnists and bloggers in real life who specualte on the chances each offseason, I'd like to hear some speculation in the game to help me out. |
