Solving 40-man roster crunch in offseason
After a major farm rebuilding effort, i have now created some form of crunch on my 40-man roster, and i guess after losing 2 guys in the Rule 5 draft last year, i was a bit worried and i over protected this year, forgetting i still had 2 guys left over on the 60-day DL (wish i had been forced to reinstate at end of season like real world).
My question is what is the best way to find trading partners? If i shop a player all i get are other guys on 40-man already. Can i assume a team offering me something has some interest in the player? I have gone through list picking random team with (win now!) but with little luck, once i start discussion... i there a report which summarize each team's needs?. Also. I actively manage my minor league teams, to keep my affiliates happy :-). what is the best way to trade for AA talent? had a major injury bug in september, and my AAA and AA team had clinched playoffs spot, but when i tried to help them by getting a couple of career minor-leaguers the asking pricing was ridiculous... |

I can help you a little bit with this. There's no report that summarizes each team's needs but there is a report that you can use to focus on teams that need what you have to trade.
Say you have too many catchers in your farm system, or you got two catchers who demand to start on your team. Now you need to know who might be interested in one of them in a trade. What I use in this situation is the Positional Strength Overview by Positions Report. This report takes some doing to get at; you need to go to your League Menu, click Reports Home under Info & Reports, go to the drop down menu on the right labeled Select League Report, and select Positional Strength by Positions. [The Positional Strength Report that is available on the League Menu is the other report that lists position rankings by team.] On the Positional Strength Overview by Positions Report, you can see which teams are ranked near the bottom by position. For example, if I had that catcher I wanted to trade, I would see if the Mets, White Sox, Red Sox, Braves, or Indians were willing to trade with me. Since their catchers are the worst in the league, they are most likely to offer me value in return. One thing to remember, of course, is that these teams need to be able to afford the catcher that I am offering. It would be ideal if one of these teams that I am looking to trade with had a current budget surplus that will cover my catcher's salary. If not, then I must narrow my choices of their offerings to players who match my catcher's salary or who earn less. Of course, minor league catchers would be more moveable in this regard but will generally not be worth as much in a trade. You can find out which teams are in the green or in the red from the Financial Report.

Good advice Deja - use that myself.
Just to point out, when on the league reports page, both options are available on this menu. No difference really, just saves you from going to the drop down menu ![]() _ |

thanks, that was really useful.. I was able to target a couple teams, and clear a bit of space of prospect with bad defense ratings (all my affiliates were really low in efficiency)
