Drafting in Stats Only

I would like to crowdsource some strategies for amateur drafting in stats only leagues. I have tried looking at requested bonus amounts, RBI's, ERA, OBP, W-L records, etc. But, I still have a difficult time finding a good player to draft.

Aside from turning ratings on just for the draft, what strategies do you employ when sifting through the stats of draftees to make a decision?

I just do what you said. I sift through stats and usually look at college players first. I read the scouting reports (that text) (with scouting set to the lowest accuracy). I've actually done pretty decently.

I really struggle with this too. There are typically several players that have decent scouting reports...the rest just poke fun like the guy could never crack a Little League team. I don't really understand this. You think when the Cardinals drafted Trevor Rosenthal in the 21st round, all the scouting reports said "a little leaguer could take this guy deep" or "he has a great future...in the broadcast booth?" If I had a scout bringing me that kind of info on all players after the first couple of rounds, I'd just fire the whole group and save the money. It sure would be nice to get better scouting reports (based on what your scout thinks). It doesn't mean that the player will be a lock but it would be nice to see "really like this kids arm...might be worth a pick in a later round"...or "if he can improve his breaking ball, we might have a solid pitcher down the road".

I know Rosenthal went undrafted for 20 rounds but I don't think teams were thinking...this guy couldn't get a little leaguer out. I know it's a fine line but this area of the game really needs improvement. I'm seeing a lot of people wanting to play stats only...decent scouting reports for drafts would be nice.

You're right. Can you post that in the Suggestions For OOTP 15 forum?

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.
