Older versions of OOTP

I was wondering if any of the older versions of OOTP are available for purchase? Or are the older ones pretty much archived and taken out of circulation

Some of them can still be purchased. You can get OOTP8 for free.

Which version do you want? And why? OOTP14 is twice the game of any other version and for only $20 bucks....

I currently have 13 and 14. Looking to create a fictional universe, i.e. new nations, cities, etc. and I have not worked with HTML files a lot and do not want to mess anything up. I know I can back-up the current game, which I do regularly, but just the way that the editing was in 12 and earlier was SO much easier.
And I do agree that OOTP14 is so much more than it's predecessors were.

I was introduced to OOTP with version 8, I'd love to take her for a spin again

Still playing with OOTP 8 and OOTP 11, and enjoying it.

For one thing, I'm using a 7-year-old computer. Afraid that the new versions might run too slowly in my old but trusty computer.

For another (and this is much more serious concern for me), heard that world_default.xml file in the newer versions (OOTP 12-14) is difficult to edit.

Is this true?

But when I get a new computer sometime before the year ends, might get OOTP 14 if I can find a relatively easy way to edit the world_default.xml file for my fictional league....

It's not difficult to edit at all, but it is time consuming.

Have a read through this excellent guide written by Dreifort - http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ref-guide.html

It may sound confusing but really isn't. I strongly suggest using Notepad++ (A free download) for editing, works very well.

I was a bit hesitant at first to edit the xml, but once I dove in I had little/no problem at all. I guess it depends on how comfortable one is working with this stuff.

Thanks for the reply, Bluenoser.

I'm now more confident in getting a newer version of OOTP, as soon as I'm able to buy that new laptop.

If I'm hearing you right, it's doable though a little bit tedious because it's time consuming. I can live with that. Besides, I'm already familiar with Notepad++.

Will read Dreifort's guide...

G/L with the project. Feel free to PM if you have questions. I'm no expert but do have experience, so I'll help if/where I can.

Monk, you looking for a desktop or a laptop?

I ask because I have a habit of stumbling upon outrageous computer deals.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Actually that was much easier than I thought it would be using Notepad++. Took me a little more than 2 hours to add a nation, 2 states, 20 cities and 4 regions. And it actually worked.
I guess the OP about prior versions being available is moot now.

I will. But hopefully it will not be that difficult. Need to add a nation and 250 cities/towns.

Really appreciate the offer, Wolf. But I live in Southeast Asia. Not so sure if I'll be able to avail of these deals. By the way, planning to get a laptop.

Thank you, Bluenoser and Wolf...
