The 2013 Oakland Athletics Official Thread

It begins tonight!

It's hard to expect a year like last year's, but as with any new season I go in optimistic. Everyone who doesn't follow this team like we do likes to say that they were a fluke in 2012. But I don't think so. Hopefully it is a fun year.

I'll be seeing the A's at least once this year, when they come to Milwaukee June 3-5.

Yeah, the only way the Rule 5 guy stays is because of a couple of guys going on the DL. They effectively chose him over Barton.

As for the SP depth, yeah, it's funny how last year that was a huge strength, and now we're like, we have such little depth. You have to figure once Colon comes back it's Straily/Gray for 6 & 7. That's not too exciting. I doubt Blackley clears waivers so he's probably gone. Apparently Pedro Figueroa is being stretched out to start in AAA.

Here are some off the wall predictions:
Donaldson will hit 25 homers.
Milone will lead the team in wins.
Reddick will start the season in a slump, cut his beard, then get hot.
Chris Young will not finish the season as an A.
The A's all stars will be: Cespedes, Jaso, & Parker.

Look what happens when you get to open the season against King Felix..... again. I watched a majority of the game and we couldn't do anything offensively.

I watched the whole thing, staying up about two hours later than I normally would. And it was a snooze-fest. Oh well, 161 more and probably only 3 or 4 more against Felix.

Same sentiment from M's fans. But look out for Larry Bernandez.

So the A's have scored 1 run in the first two games? This feels so.... normal.

Split the series so it wasn't so bad.

Oh, and nobody wanted Barton.... but we had a taker for Blackley.

Chris Carter update.... He's 0-11 with 7Ks. And has a .857 fielding percentage in LF. Ouch.

I just wanna ask, is he gonna be the next Dave Kingman? (Ignore the personality thing though. I know nothing of what Carter is like, but I doubt its as pompous as what Kingman seemed to be.)

I really thought Barton would get picked up by someone. Remember when he was THE GUY in the Mulder trade?

Sizemore tore his ACL again. Out for the season.

What a tough break. I'm not sure it affects the A's significantly but I feel bad for him.

If my Angels keep playing like this, you got nothing to worry about. Unbelievable they're off to repeat last year's start.

Yea, it's a tough break for him, although I didn't expect him to contribute much this year. I thought he'd be the backup in case Lowrie or Hiro got hurt. When Nakajima (and to a lesser extent Rosales) went down and he still wasn't getting much playing time, I thought he would be shipped off eventually.

I'm mildly surprised that Andy Parrino was called up to take his place. I guess Weeks has really fallen out of favor. Either that or they want him to get 100% of the ABs in AAA.

On the bright side, you gotta like how the A's are playing. They are winning largely without Cespedes, Reddick, or starting pitching giving much contribution. It's nice to see some quality ABs coming from the SS & C positions. -I can't remember the last time we had that.

They said it was because of versatility, but I think yeah, there is something to letting Jemile keep playing every day somewhere too. Parrino probably won't play much as Sogard is playing well as the everyday 2B, so Parrino can back up the other positions.

That was a great game last night. I have not checked the statuses of Cespedes and Crisp, I hope they're not seriously hurt.
