It's this or that

I read the posts. I read the negative posts with complaints and in general, they are right. I read the posts that preach patience (not a commodity found readily in game players) and they are right.

It is a dilemma.

What you see is what you get. That's it. This is the game as it exists now. Is it worth $40? No. Can you afford $40 in the hopes that it's an investment in the future? Only you know.

There is no way (I hope) that anyone at OOTP is trying to run a scam for your money and make off with the couple of thousand dollars in receipts and live in a palace in Southeast Asia.

Grin and bear it, make suggestions, hope for the best, and don't browbeat. Browbeat causes nothing.

If your stomach is turned by what you've gotten, get your money back and give your farewell that you will never darken these doorsteps again (I did that with OOTP a few versions ago).

Either way just put up and hope for the best or buzz off. You're not wrong in your complaints but harping on them day after day doesn't help anyone.

This game is a huge disappointment to me. I will not be asking for my money back. I will put my trust in the lads that they can right this ship. Did they release too soon? Yes, I think so. (They probably bash themselves over the heads every morning). Have you ever make a mistake? Yes, I think so.

Show your better and patient side (funny coming from me), or move on to the thousands of other hockey sims available out there and please drop us a line with the names of their websites.

Basically it's simple, put up (with the delays in reaching a good game), or shut up (and buzz off). I believe they are working hard. I believe their task isn't easy. And I would hate to be on of them visiting these boards to read what a crummy person I am. If I want to know what a crummy person I am, I can ask my wife.

Leave them alone to do their job. Make suggestions. Report bugs. But please cut out the whining. It's beneath you. It's even beneath me.

I am not a fanboy (shoot me dead first), but I am a realist with over 20 years experience in software development. (That's probably why I'm a high school teacher now).

Let's make this a happy land and yes, I would like to join that class-action suit against Disney World.

The best part of OOTP (at least this case particular) is that they actually let you know what's going and are making relatively quick updates to remedy and advance the game.

We haven't had a good hockey sim in years. (EHM is the only one I really like, never was a fan of the other FHM or STHS or EHM 2007). This has great potential and will easily be top on my list once they get everything sorted out.

Game is not what I thought..too bad, BUT,,Im willing to be patient and see what happens. My only frustration is that the things I though were in the game, via the advertisement, are not working right.

This is definitely where my concerns and frustrations lie. Advertised features that are basic needs in a GM style game don't work properly. Also for new fans/buyers the game advertised sounds very different to the game we have. It is difficult to understand how a company that got drafting, trading, free agency, waivers and scouting so right in baseball have failed so far in hockey.

I won't be asking for a refund but I will show some patience that the game I bought will finally be delivered at some point preferably before FHM2015 or I won't be buying that.

I agree with a lot of what you say. A lot of negativity is getting us nowhere. Unfortunately also getting us nowhere is reporting bugs, constructive criticism and some very detailed posts by some users highlighting where certain issues lie with the game. There is a lack of feedback about any of these issues being dealt with or looked at by the development team. What we tend to get is a fix list for a patch that does not include many of these issues.

Yes, indeed. What's funny: I had a little rant about the lack of feedback in late September. Than four or five days later I made a long post about the custom leagues and what they are missing, what's stupid about them, etc. Suddenly Sebastian posted and thanked me for my input. That started three days of solid activity by Sebastian and then...? Nothing. That was two and a half weeks ago!!
I simply don't get it.

It's not even what they advertise or said or didn't said but there are some basics that has to be perfect before you can work about something else.

- Trading + Drafting
- Simming + Stats
- Injuries
- Contracts
- Player Overalls + Potential --> based on training
- Adding New youth

If those 'features' above aren't stable towards each other you can never make a serious hockey sim. You will always be running after the errors.

I have always said why do we need a history mode ?
Why do we need so much custom league junk ?
Why do we need a network game ?
Why do we need 350 countries playable while most of the gamers don't even know where those countries are located.

You can'y add those features until you have a stable game,

First version 1.0:
NHL - AHL and CHL ( this is what most people would be pleased with if the integration between those league would be solid )

If this is stable by version 1.1 or 1.2 and you see solid results you can add USA college and other divisions around that by version 1.3 - 1.8 during the year.

Second version 2.0:
Maybe add some European TOP Level teams not the UK and France but serious leagues.
Maybe add international tournaments + Olympics.
Maybe add online gameplay

Third version 3.0:
Start adding more customization to the game from the user's end.
Start adding different game-modes.
Change the structure so this game isn't Hockey in a Baseball jacket. (UI)

Now in 3 years this game could've mature on the right way and you could've collected tons of data from simming to build upon and how leagues would react to each other.

Just my idea of development, I will not give up on this even when I haven't played more than one hour since the release. I said before I'll wait to december before everything will fall in place.

Thumbs up

I agree. Patience. EHM was great and I still play it. And I will till this game comes up to OOTP14 Standard. But the game is playable. Is it optimum. No. But we should be willing to wait to get a great product. And these guys will deliver.

I'll be honest. The threads of negativity are very alarming, and what ruffle's my feathers more than anything is the constant tweet's or various post's made on facebook persay listing the features and painting a pretty image of the game. I believe the game is gonna be great down the road, I do not blame the company for it's attempt to market and advertise, but I don't understand why it is been thrown in a limelight so to speak and they're are numerous "features" and such that still need to be fixed.

Companies will take your money and pretend they're product is that and more but it makes me frown where the state of the game is right now with so many things that need to be addressed that one cannot fathom to think why the game would be priced at where it is and not say half of what the game is actually "worth".

It's worth that and beyond to some people and hey, I'm not here to cause an argument or anything but I've been very disappointed in the way the producers have been missing in action for weeks now and although I do appreciate the time and effort they are doing behind the scenes, It's time for them to start interacting with the fan base if this makes any sense and not a great wall of text I'm writing lol.

There has been alot of people exploiting the problems such as Ciccarelli, The fighting thread, Countless people and bugs they've encountered (I'm sorry for the people whom I can't think of at the top of my head right now), It would be nice to see more forum dedication so people can actually read about or see that they are taking things seriously in a sense and I do not disagree they are, it's just nice to see it rather then "believe" it sorta thing =P

I just don't understand how a group of people obviously had some sort of discussion and decided the game was ready for release when it was clearly not.

My opinion is that they was willing to postpone the release but:
  1. they have already postponed it several times;
  2. they had to release first version (and therefore next ones) close to NHL season start, and if they postponed the release the whole nice schedule would be set off;
  3. they needed to get some money to continue work with the FHM;
  4. maybe their bosses (read Markus and co.) didn't allow them to postpone. It's financial things, baby, you know.
Whatever reason is, FHM was released at September 2013. And this event can't be erased from history. (unless you have working DeLorean, of course)

well the game is better with the new patch I can at least play now without crashing every time I click on something.but it is still a big work in progress. If they released it at the state its at with the newest patch there wouldn't have been half the bashing and angry customers why wouldn't they wait till now it could only have helped the situation.i don't want my money back I just want a franchise hockey sim game for the future just like the rest of you and this one has all the promise to deliver.they just really did a disservice to the game by releasing it in such an unfinished state but hopefully it will all work out in the end and they don't lose to many customers
