Problems/Solutions - I love the flexibility of OOTPB.

Problem - New laptop comes with mandatory Windows 8.
Solution - OOTPB works fine with Windows 8 (ok, this one is a gimme).

Problem - New laptop has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080. Nice for OOTPB (I've seen portions of some screens for the first time, like nine (9) windows available for the Organization Overview screen!) but . . . tiny font. It's clear but still too small to be comfortable for long periods of play.
Solution - Select windowed 1600 x 900 in OOTPB preferences. When about to play OOTPB, right click on desktop and select 1600 x 900 screen resolution (which seems to be the #2 suggestion from the laptop manufacturer). Start OOTPB and . . . perfect match! (Only six (6) Organization Overview windows but I'll "live" with that. )

Problem - But, hmmm. Mr. Fussbudget does not like the display which looks just a bit blurry in this resolution. Not bad, but bothersome.
Solution - Hey, what about one of the other skins? Download the Classic skin and try it out. Holy Smokes, this looks great! Fonts nice and crisp. (I have noticed in the past such subtle differences among skins - it's not just a matter of color schemes).

I love the flexibility of OOTPB.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

You can also use a larger font in OOTP but still keep the 1920 X 1080 resolution

Good point, and one that I had made a mental note to come back here and mention.

I did try that and would have continued to use it had I not thought of the 1600 x 900 screen resolution idea (that is, selecting that resolution before playing the game with the same-sized window). The only problem with increasing the font size is that it still needs a bit of tweaking - there are some spots here and there where even the medium setting causes labels to be chopped and truncated.

Still, another aspect of game flexibility that should be mentioned. Thanks.

You may laugh at this. I had bought a cheap laptop some time ago and a couple of months ago tried to play OOTP on a flight in the native 1024 X 768 format. I just couldn't do it. My home box has 1920 X 1080 resolution and the game just wasn't the same. When I got home I ordered a Lenovo Ideapad 15.6 but with HD 1920 X 1080 display. The font is just small enough to make me use the larger one. So far so good.

The wife rolled her eyes but seemed happy to get the other laptop to watch TV online when she goes to bed.

I hear ya. 1024 x 768, which seemed huge when it first became popular, now seems like the old 800 x 600. Remember that one?
