Brawls
Does anyone know if there's any variables that factor into whether a hit-by-pitch turns into a fight, or is it simply a dice roll?
The reason I ask is because I just had HBP occur in an 8-0 blowout, with a man on first, in an 0-2 count, and it turned into a brawl. Normally it wouldn't have stood out to me, but just six days earlier, that same player was hit by a pitch. This time, it was in a tight game with no score, against a division rival that we are chasing in the standings, just one inning after we had hit one of their players, and on the first pitch of the at-bat. If ANY situation warranted a brawl, it was the second one. But no, my player calmly walked down to first base. I figured, well, he's not the kind of player who would charge the mound, anyway. At least, that's what I thought until today. So yeah, if (as it appears) there really aren't any external factors that influence the likelihood of a fight, my question is, why not? IIRC, a HBP following a HR increases brawl chances. Not a solid recollection, though.

I think the BIGGEST factor is your coaching staff and manager with their ratings in how well they handle their players. The better the ratings are the less chance of a Brawl and the lower the chances are the better of a brawl or suspension is what I have noticed.

I saw a great brawk in my game recently.
Roberto Fajardo was dealing at the Jays were ahead 10-0 with 2-out in the bottom of the ninth and one man on. Fajardo gave up a homer, blowing his shut-out but in no way threatening the outcome of the game. He hit the next batter. I think I would charged the mound too. |
