Is He Worth It?
Is my 25 year old RF worth the following contract extension offer?
Year 1: 9.75 million Year 2: 11 million Year 3: 12.75 million Year 4: 13.95 million Year 5: 14.75 million Year 6: 16.5 million (team option) He is in his first year of arbitration (likely to get 6-7 million). I was unable to negotiate with him last season as I didn't have any money available to offer any contracts. That has since changed. |

Depends on a lot of things.
Can you afford it? Is there a more affordable option? Can you improve by trading? Without knowing anything about your financial situation, the talent level of the league, etc etc, kind of hard to say. |

check his arbitration value then offer him 500K less than that value and if he goes for it then during the following season sign him to a long term contract if you find value with him. For me I find long term contracts major value since you can keep costs down.
I do a lot of 9 to 10 year contracts with the last 2 years with team options |

If all else fails why not just offer arbitration for one year then they seem to be more willing to go long term .... that's the pattern of what I am getting even now I had a few players who wouldn't go long term but would do a one year contract ....I did that with a few of my arb players and after that season signed one to 7 years another 9 years and one 10 years and all 3 contracts with 2 years team options. Got them not so bad a price since they appear to be worth it in the long run
