Community Suggestions for an Updated Manual

As per Brad, this thread's purpose is for users to post any items or concepts they come across that aren't currently covered in the OOTP Manual, for the purposes of updating it. I'll start with a couple I've noticed:

From the thread that spawned this: the Pitch Count column in the Pitching Tab needs an explanation.
The manual still lists the old Pitching Staff designations, despite being changed in '14. We no longer have "mop-ups" or "spot starters", and we now have "specialists" and "stoppers" as well. It would also be nice to let people know that these can change depending on the era of your game.
We now have a Pinch Hitter and Pinch Runner list in the Lineups & Depth Charts tab that isn't covered in the manual.

Well, it was Brad's idea, not mine, but seeing how many attempts to update the manual have failed in recent years... yeah, probably gonna need the luck.

- Info on the New International Scouting
- a detailed breakdown on the team and player strategy sliders
- If some newer sabermetric stats (WAR, VORP, OPS+, wOBA) are calculated different than in RL then some detailed info on how they are calculated would be nice
- better info on how the new CBA comp picks are selected
- better info on how feeders work and roughly how many are needed for a realistic talent pool

NOTE: some of these may not be manual worthy, but just some areas that could use some more info

Remove the language that indicates that OPS+ (and ERA+) are park adjusted in the game. They are not.

wait...what? OPS+ is not calculated/adjusted for parks in OOTP? Isn't that exactly what OPS+ is? What is OPS+ in OOTP then?

It is calculated using lg totals, but no park factors.

Playoff rosters! This needs to be explained a whole lot better, especially with regards to injury replacements - what you need to do to be eligible for them, who's eligible, when you can make those replacements, etc.

I would love for the Team Financials and all the numbers on them to have detailed explanations so that we can understand exactly where they're coming from. Sometimes its a big mystery.

Those are the top two I can think of right now, but I'm sure I'll find more.

Would it be possible to turn the manual into a wiki (or at least make a wiki version of it)? That would let us make our changes and also leave lots of room for people to post strategies, tips etc which would help new players.

Thanks for starting this thread.

Turning the manual into a wiki isn't a bad idea - one thing that occurred to me today was how we confirm the info that's posted here. Ideally, I (or whoever) goes through this item by item, makes the edits, and I'm done, but there could be bad info in here.

A wiki would allow someone else to jump in and make little fixes whenever necessary.

I mentioned updating the manual on our internal email list, but no feedback yet - since we're working feverishly to get FHM done, I don't think anyone wants to think about this until we're done with that.

But in the meantime, please keep posting items here. Thanks.
