Is international bonus money a commodity in OOTP14?
Hey everyone, just registered with the forum! Can something like this happen in the new OOTP?
Mark Cubs Add Nearly $1 Million To Bonus Pool July 2, 2013 by John Manuel The July 2 start of the international signing period brought a new kind of trade to Major League Baseball: players for international signing pool money. The Cubs, as expected, were the biggest movers. A club official confirmed that they added nearly $1 million as they acquired four bonus slots and traded one. Between three trades—one each with the Astros, Orioles and Dodgers—the Cubs increased their bonus pool from $4,557,200 to $5,520,300 The Cubs sent minor league second baseman Ronald Torreyes to the Astros for Houston’s second and third slots, Nos. 31 ($468,400) and 61 ($316,300) overall. They also acquired slots Nos. 83 ($237,200) and 113 ($150,900) from the Orioles, as well as righthanders Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop, in exchange for righthander Scott Feldman and catcher Steve Clevenger. The Cubs then traded the Dodgers their fourth slot, worth $209,700, in a swap of big league relievers who had been designated for assignment, with Carlos Marmol going to Los Angeles in exchange for Matt Guerrier. The top 120 international bonus slots are available here. |

Here's more:
Cubs Willing To Incur International Spending Penalties By Steve Adams [July 4, 2013 at 3:05pm CST] Last night, in analyzing the Cubs' international expenditures, I noted that the team is on track to face some harsh penalties due to their bulk of signings since Tuesday. If the reported figures hold true, the Cubs would face a 100 percent tax on their overage and also be unable to sign a player from next year's international class for more than $500K. Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times writes that the Cubs like this year's crop of international free agents so much, that they're willing to make that sacrifice. Wittenmyer spoke to general manager Jed Hoyer and manager Dale Sveum about the crop of talent, with Sveum calling the international market "a whole 'nother draft." Hoyer told Wittenmyer, "We really like some of the impact talent in this year’s international class. We feel there’s both depth and premium guys." The Cubs' $2.8MM signing of top-ranked prospect Eloy Jimenez is not yet official, so it seems that they should still be able to acquire additional bonus slots in trades to avoid some of those penalties. Per the new CBA, teams can acquire an additional 50 percent of their initial bonus pool. That means the Cubs, who have already acquired $963K, can acquire an additional $1,315,600. They currently project to be $899K over their pool. |

This can't happen in OOTP. It would be a coding nightmare.

The spending penalties exist, although they aren't exactly the same as real life. You can view them on the IFA screen. Trading bonus slots doesn't and as slugga notes it would probably be difficult to implement.

what's funny is the next CBA will probably take out this new exploit that Theo and Co. have found. so by not allowing int'l slot money to be traded, OOTP may be ahead of the curve

Oh, one more thing. Is a team's available $ for IFAs dependent on its record in the previous season?

Pretty sure that's not an "exploit", but rather by design. And to answer your other question, no. All teams have the same budget in that regard. Again, coding would be a problem.
