About Storylines

I've seen a few people post about storylines, like the people who post about how their player leaves their team to join another sport..... The crazy thing is, I played my last game for about 20-25 years, haven't seen that ONCE...... Is there certain options you have to have checked,not checked? I'm not saying I WANT my guys to retire, but it would be cool to at least see this ONCE.... Especially if the reason I'm not seeing it, is because I have something checked or not checked

Thank you for the help.

Make sure you have them enabled, also you should enable personality and morale as they work hand in hand with story lines.

There is no set consistency to them, they happen when they do at random, although I've never gone near that long without one.

Story Lines aren't for everyone, some people flat out don't like them and swear they ruin a league. Others, like me, enjoy them. It's a personal preference thing.

I'll be the first to admit they have lots of room for improvement, but they do improve each new version. They've come a long way since they were first introduced, I have no doubt they'll continue to grow.

As long as the topic came up:

In past versions there were complaints that some of the storylines changed market size and such too drastically. For example I think Ponzi Scheme was -5 market or more. Have these effects been changed at all?

I agree... from what I heard, they seem like they have room for improvement..... as for me, I'm with you... I like that type of stuff... I mean maybe it's happening for other teams in my league but I haven't noticed it for MY team yet.... I have them enabled as well as personality,morale.... It's just kind of weird I haven't really seen one lol..

Do you have to have the "act as GM" option enabled or disabled? also do you have to have coaches turned on as well?

Thanks for the help man!

This was fixed AFAIK. I haven't seen any effects like that with 14.

No not on act as GM, but that shouldn't matter. I sometimes just play Commish and still see them. See them with and without coaches.

They can be subtle at times too, you might not even know it's storyline.

I took this note about a year ago. BN just negated one of them, so it may be obsolete in part, true in others:
Quote:
These conditions are required to see storylines more frequently:
* control of team
* not delegating roster moves or transactions
* coaches and scouts on
* personality and morale on
* receiving league news
* receiving BNN news stories

Didn't really negate. Just wont see stories involving coaches.

Not delegating roster movies/transactions means.. you're basically doing the moves and not the AI right?

Haven't noticed this myself, but I don't really use the GM only mode.

Endgame - can you note this please?

I don't think playing as GM only should disable storylines.

For the OP - can you try switching back and forth a few times from GM mode to not and see if you notice a difference? It may just have been a lull in storylines, but better to be sure.

Hmm.. I changed it to GM mode.. then I got this

Pie Antics May Cost Him in More Ways Than One: Felix Pie will probably think twice the next time he tries to pull a prank on a teammate. The Pittsburgh right fielder attempted to deliver a shaving cream "pie" in the face of teammate Oliver Perez during a postgame interview yesterday. However, the stunt went awry when Perez ducked away at the last second, causing Pie to miss his mark and hit his hand awkwardly against his teammate's shoulder. Pie immediately began shaking his hand and clinching his wrist, prompting an on-the-spot examination by a team trainer. Although subsequent x-rays were negative, Pie was diagnosed with a bruised wrist, which will cause him to miss the next few games. "These guys should really know better than to pull that kind of stunt," said manager Clint Hurdle. "It's a tired gag and there's just too much of a risk of injury. It's not worth it." To add - as the saying goes - insult to injury, Hurdle says he will also fine Pie for his "lapse in judgment" and to "set an example" for other players who might be tempted to play a similar prank in the future.

not sure if that's the storyline I'm talking about, or a regular one.

These have been toned down tremendously in 14. The same is true with other stories causing huge changes.

Trevor Bauer, The Smartest Man on the Field

Just came across this one on Feb 2, 2016 of my quickstart sim. Pretty cool (I assume it's a storyline?):

Throughout baseball's history, a player's intelligence has rarely factored into his legacy. Some player insist that in fact, intelligent player's are looked down on by GM's and owners as someone they would rather not have in their locker room. After all, a smart player is less likely to make dumb financial decisions and accept a bad contract.

However, when a player as good as <Trevor Bauerlayer#35494> walks on the field, GM's and owners alike take note even though he would fit in just as well in the owner's meeting. As a young boy, <Bauerlayer#35494> had an IQ of 146. Growing up in Santa Clarita, he dreamed about baseball...and going to University. He had always been naturally athletic, but also excelled in academics.

When asked now why he went to college even though he had numerous chances to sign with a professional team right out of high school he said, "I know my baseball career isn't going to last forever and when it's gone, it was important to have something to fall back to. In college, I majored in business management and it has really changed the way I look at the business of baseball."

His brain power has certainly not made him any enemies in the locker room. Cleveland Indians teammate, LeVon Washington, said of <Trevorlayer#35494>, "He is the most normal ball player in the world. He puts on his cleats one at a time just like the rest of the team. Of course, unlike the rest of the guys, he occasionally talks about which companies to invest our money in, and that's when we tend to do something smart - we shut up and listen."

Just too much of a coincidence that it's Felix PIE who got hurt giving a PIE in the face?

If I played using real players I would probably turn them off, but I like having them in my fictional league.
